The Argentine continental margin is a poorly explored area as regards its benthic biodiversity. Few works have been made near the Brazil-Malvinas confluence (around 38° S) regarding corals, especially in deep waters (over 1000 m). Hitherto 17 species of stylasterids are known from southwestern Atlantic (SWA) off Argentina. Fourteen collected Mar del Plata submarine canyon and adjacent years 2012 2013 at depths between 800 2200 m discussed, including descriptions 13 them. geographic...

Donax hanleyanus Philippi, 1847 (Bivalvia: Donacidae) dominates fine to coarse sandy beach communities of the northern Argentinean Atlantic coast. The population biology this intertidal wedge clam was studied by determining structure, growth and production at three locations Santa Teresita, Mar de las Pampas (both from December 2005 2006) Faro Querandí (from March 2006). Von Bertalanffy functions were established length-frequency distributions using an asymptotic length (L∞) 44 mm constants...

Corbicula fluminea is an aggressive invasive species of bivalve that arrived into the Río de la Plata River between late 60's and early 70's, dispersed widely throughout Neotropical region, evidencing a great adaptive flexibility to different environmental conditions. This functional hermaphrodite with larval incubation inside inner demibranch. Despite its widespread distribution, there are no previous studies complete gonadal histology reproductive cycle for this in region. In study,...

The reproductive biology of the gregarious Mediterranean vermetid gastropod Dendropoma petraeum (Mollusca: Gastropoda) has been studied in south-eastern coast Spain. It apparently is a gonochorisric species with sex ratio biased toward females (71%). A broad peak more intense activity occurs spring months and an inactive period during winter. gonad males develops about two before those females, storage sperm by observed. Internal fertilization takes place after capture pelagic...

The occurrence of imposex in Adelomelon brasiliana during two consecutive years near to Mar del Plata (the principal fishery port Argentina) and its relation tributyltin (TBT) dibutyltin (DBT) content muscle tissue digestive gland was investigated using gas chromatography. Percentage affected females increased over 80% spring summer both years. However, intensity, given by the relative penis size index (RPSI), fluctuated around low values. samples showed a very concentration TBT (36–46 ng/g...

Abstract. Members of Odontocymbiola magellanica (Volutidae, Odontocymbiolinae) inhabit Argentinean waters from 35°S to the Magallanes Strait. The reproductive biology this potential fishery resource has not been studied before. Male individuals reach maturity at 80 mm and females 90 mm, corresponding ∼7 8 years age, respectively. Mating was observed in field all seasons possess live spermatozoa bursa copulatrix year round, suggesting that living sperm can be preserved for several months....
