Latin America is one of the regions in which COVID-19 pandemic has a stronger impact, with more than 72 million reported infections and 1.6 deaths until June 2022. Since this region ecologically diverse affected by enormous social inequalities, efforts to identify genomic patterns circulating SARS-CoV-2 genotypes are necessary for suitable management pandemic. To contribute surveillance America, we extended number genomes available from sequencing analyzing viral genome patients seven...
Summary The genetic diversity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has the potential to impact virus transmissibility and escape from natural infection- or vaccine-elicited neutralizing antibodies. Here, representative samples circulating SARS-CoV-2 in Colombia between January April 2021, were processed for genome sequencing lineage determination following nanopore amplicon ARTIC network protocol PANGOLIN pipeline. This strategy allowed us identify emergence...
COVID-19 pandemics has led to genetic diversification of SARS-CoV-2 and the appearance variants with potential impact in transmissibility viral escape from acquired immunity. We report a new highly divergent lineage containing 21 distinctive mutations (10 non-synonymous, eight synonymous, three substitutions non-coding regions). The amino acid changes L249S E484K located at CTD RBD Spike protein could be special interest due their biological role virus-host relationship. Further studies are...
Abstract COVID-19 pandemics has led to genetic diversification of SARS-CoV-2 and the appearance variants with potential impact in transmissibility viral escape from acquired immunity. We report a new lineage containing ten distinctive amino acid changes across genome. Further studies are required for monitoring its epidemiologic impact.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is transmitted person-to-person mainly by close contact or droplets from respiratory tract. However, the actual time of viral shedding still uncertain as well different routes transmission. We aimed to characterize RNA nasopharyngeal and rectal samples in prolonged cases mild COVID-19 young male soldiers. Seventy patients three military locations were monitored after recommending follow more strict isolation measures prevent spread virus. Then,...

Abstract Background By March 2022, around 34 million people in Colombia had received a complete scheme of vaccines against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) including, mRNA-based vaccines, viral vectored or inactivated whole virus vaccine. However, as several SARS-CoV-2 variants concern (VOC) and interest (VOI) co-circulate country, determining resistance level to vaccine-elicited neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) is useful improve efficacy COVID-19 vaccination...
Here, we report the genome sequence of a Siphoviridae phage named vB_SauS_BaqSau1 (BaqSau1), infecting Staphylococcus aureus Phage BaqSau1 was isolated from sewage water treatment plant in Sahagún, Córdoba, Colombia. It has double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) 44,384 bp with 67 predicted genes, including lysin containing CHAP (cysteine, histidine-dependent amidohydrolase/peptidase) domain.
Abstract The healthcare workers are considered as a high-risk group for infection with SARS-CoV-2, so they were included in the first stage of National Plan Vaccination against COVID-19 Colombia. An ongoing prospective cohort study to evaluate immune response vaccination 490 from health institutions Bogotá, Colombia, vaccinated between March and June 2021 BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNtech). Multiple samples collected during follow-up period 6 months after immunization. We report cases asymptomatic...
