While investigating a giraffe's death in Vietnamese zoo, we successfully identified and isolated Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) from nodule biopsies ruptured wound swab samples. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate obtained this study was closely related to previous Chinese LSDV strains cattle. This is first report on genome detection isolation of diseased giraffe Vietnam. Further needed better understand epidemiology wildlife.
Abstract Background African swine fever (ASF), caused by the ASF virus (ASFV), was first reported in Vietnam 2019 and spread rapidly thereafter. Better insights into ASFV characteristics early detection surveillance could help control its spread. However, pathogenicity methods for of isolates from have not been established. Therefore, we investigated explored alternative sampling detection. Results Ten pigs were intramuscularly inoculated with an strain (titer, 10 3.5 HAD 50 /mL), their...
Abstract Background In recent years, Vietnam has suffered multiple epizootics of influenza in poultry. Methods From 10 January 2019 to 26 April 2021, we employed a One Health surveillance approach at live bird markets (LBMs) and swine farms Northern Vietnam. When the COVID-19 pandemic permitted, each month, field teams collected oral secretion samples from poultry pigs, animal facility bioaerosol fecal samples, worker nasal washes 4 LBMs 5 across sites. Initially were screened with molecular...
The main objectives of this study were to model various scenarios African swine fever (ASF) virus transmission among farms in Vietnam and evaluate the impact control strategies using North American Animal Disease Spread Model (NAADSM). A total 7,882 pig Red River Delta (RRD) region obtained from General Statistics Office, then, random points corresponding number each province generated as exact farm locations not available. 10 models developed, including movement scenarios. In addition, we...
Newly emergent and virulent strains of H7N9 avian influenza virus are rapidly spreading in China threaten to invade Vietnam. We sought introduce aerosol sampling for viruses During October 2017, National Institute Occupational Safety Health 2-stage samplers were assembled on a tripod run 4 hours. Concomitantly, up 20 oropharyngeal (OP) swab samples collected from chickens ducks distanced at 0.2–1.5 m each sampler. The 3 weeks yielded 30 that 90% positive A, by quantitative...
Acidic electrolyzed water (EW) (pH 2.6−5.8) and alkaline EW 11.2−12.1) were examined as potential disinfectants against foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). Using acidic with pH 2.6 >11.7, the viral titer decreased in vitro by > 4.0 log values, 2 min after was mixed at a 1:10 dilution. The strong virucidal effect of 2.6), but not that (>11.7), seemed to depend on chlorine level solution. Genetic analysis revealed RNA substantially reduced, especially EW.
African swine fever (ASF), caused by virus (ASFV), is a fatal disease affecting wild and domestic pigs. Since China reported the first ASF outbreak in August 2018, ASFV has swept over neighbouring Asian countries. However, studies involving experimental pig-to-pig transmission Vietnam are lacking. The main objective of this study was to demonstrate pathobiological characteristics contact-exposed pigs estimate their basic reproduction number (R0) Vietnam. Fifteen were randomly divided into...
Abstract Influenza A viruses are a One Health threat because they can spill over between host populations, including among humans, swine, and birds. Surveillance of swine influenza virus in Hanoi, Vietnam, during 2013–2019 revealed gene pool enrichment from imported Asia North America showed long-term maintenance, persistence, reassortment lineages. Genome sequencing continuous H1 H3 diversity through repeat introduction human variants endemic other countries. In particular, the American...
African swine fever virus is highly contagious, and mortality rates reach up to 100% depending on the host, dose, transmission routes. The main objective of this study was develop a network-based simulation model for farm-level ASF evaluate impact changes in farm connectivity spread Vietnam. A hypothetical population 1,000 pig farms created used simulation, where each represented node, connection between an edge. three scenarios modelled way (baseline, low, high) evaluated disease...
African swine fever (ASF) is a contagious and lethal hemorrhagic disease with case fatality rate approaching 100% in domestic pigs. The main objectives of this study were to describe the spatiotemporal analysis as well assess potential risk factors along pig value chain Lao Cai province, Vietnam. A total 925 outbreaks reported from 2019 2020. three clusters (primary, secondary 5th) observed near Chinese border. most temporal detected between May August during period. In addition, we...
Urban livestock provides an important source of food and income, but it may increase the risks for disease transmission. Vectors, such as mosquitoes, might thereby cause enhanced transmission infectious diseases, dengue fever; considered most mosquito-borne viral globally. This cross-sectional study evaluated awareness fever investigated how presence vectors is affected by keeping in urban households city Hanoi, Vietnam. From February to March 2018, during season lowest occurrence 140 were...
In Vietnam, lack of animal health information is considered a major challenge for pig production. The main objective this study was to assess the seroprevalences five pathogens [porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyo), Japanese encephalitis (JEV) leptospirosis] better characterize farm movements through survey.A total 600 samples were collected from 120 farms Bac Giang Nghe An. Among unvaccinated herds,...
Mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs) are causing high morbidity and mortality for humans. Urban livestock keeping is still common in cities around the world. The animals may serve as reservoirs zoonotic MBDs, which increase risks Here we assess knowledge practices related to MBDs households with without explore perceptions of health care sector about Hanoi city Vietnam a cross-sectional study. A quantitative survey was conducted including 513 livestock-keeping six districts complemented...
Abstract Background Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic disease and has been reported around the world. The main objective of this study was to evaluate sero-prevalence phylogenetic analysis HEV in Vietnam. Pig blood fecal pooled samples were collected assess prevalence HEV. We assessed true (TP) from apparent (AP) by taking into account sensitivity specificity diagnostic tests using Bayesian approach. For analysis, data compared with worldwide reference strains including all eight...
Diseases caused by flaviviruses, including dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis, are major health problems in Vietnam. This cross-sectional study explored the feasibility of domestic dogs as sentinels to better understand risks mosquito-borne diseases Hanoi city. A total 475 serum samples from 221 households six districts were analyzed a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA) for antibodies pr-E protein West Nile virus other flaviviruses due cross-reactivity. The overall...
African swine fever, caused by fever virus (ASFV), is a highly contagious and fatal disease that poses significant threat to the global pig industry.
