Objective To determine the factors associated with false-negative results on sentinel node biopsy and localization (identification rate) in patients breast cancer enrolled a multicenter trial using combination technique of isosulfan blue technetium sulfur colloid (Tc99). Summary Background Data Sentinel is diagnostic test used to detect metastases. reliability this method, complete lymph dissection must be performed rate. Single-institution series have reported excellent results, although...

A novel method for extracting butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) from serum as a means of identifying and measuring nerve agent adducts to human BuChE is presented here. Antibutyrylcholinesterase monoclonal antibodies were conjugated protein-G ferromagnetic particles mixed with 500 μL samples. The particle-antibody-BuChE product was rinsed directly digested pepsin. Native isotopically enriched nonapeptides corresponding the pepsin digest products uninhibited BuChE, sarin, cyclohexylsarin, VX,...

A new antiinflammatory agent identified as 8-[C-β-d-[2-O-(E)-cinnamoyl]glucopyranosyl]-2-[(R)-2-hydroxypropyl]-7-methoxy-5-methylchromone (1) has been isolated from Aloe barbadensis Miller. At a dose of 200 μg/mouse ear, 1 exhibited topical activity equivlaent to μg/ear hydrocortisone. There was no reduction in thymus weight caused by treatment with for any the doses tested, while hydrocortisone resulted 50% decrease weight.

We investigated hormonal regulation of endometrial angiogenesis in menstruating primates. This study was designed to demonstrate: (i) that cell-specific vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production and expression monkey endometrium are regulated by steroid receptor ligands; (ii) mifepristone (RU 486) alters VEGF even the absence a progestin agonist. Endometrial compared computer-assisted immunohistochemical analysis during induced hypoestrogenism after oestradiol, progestin, or...

In the follicular phase of menstrual cycle, pulsatile patterns LH and FSH secretion in monkeys change during maturation dominant follicle. At preovulatory surge, most striking event is prodigious elevations bioassayable LH, rising up to 50-fold within 24 h. Principally, establishment surge due marked enhancement amplitude secretory pulses. contrast, measured by RIA enter, parallel, modes approximately 5 h later than rise more slowly; B:I ratio may reach 10:1. Calcitonin inhibits both osteoclast formation and bone resorption, is a primary treatment for patients with hypercalcemia increased turnover. However, the clinical utility of calcitonin limited because become refractory to after several days (the "escape phenomenon"). The molecular basis "escape" unclear. RU 486 is a synthetic steroid with anti-progesterone and anti-glucocorticoid properties. While studying its acute effects on pituitary hormone secretion in cynomolgus monkeys, we found that inhibited PRL induced by an estrogen-progesterone synergy (P less than 0.025). By contrast, plasma levels of ACTH, arginine vasopressin cortisol increased following administration 0.05). Plasma FSH, LH, GH TSH were unaffected treatment. Our findings suggest potential diagnostic therapeutic applications 486.

Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) catalyzes sequential NADPH- and O2-dependent mono-oxygenase reactions converting L-arginine to Nω-hydroxy-L-arginine citrulline nitric oxide. The homodimeric enzyme contains one heme/monomer, that cofactor is thought mediate both partial reactions. Here we show by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy binding of substrate neuronal NOS perturbs the heme pocket without directly interacting as a sixth axial ligand; iron exclusively high spin.
