The current European Union vision for a low carbon electricity system requires large-scale expansion of overhead transmission lines to integrate renewable energy sources and ensure secure supply the future. Recently, new installations across Europe have been stymied by local opposition, which causes long delays in project completion occasional cancellations. This study presents analyzes data from an unprecedented survey on social acceptance that was conducted EU-27. We find auxiliary...

This paper presents the first value of statistical life (VSL) meta-analysis that empirically estimates correction factors for 'out context' benefits transfer (BT) purposes. In field mortality risk reductions elicited willingness to pay values in one context, say road safety, are frequently applied other contexts like air pollution. However, differences perception and population at across likely result diverging VSL estimates. a 26 international stated preference studies, Bayesian model is...

<i>Existing recreation demand models have paid much attention to the heterogeneous nature of opportunity cost time, but generally stipulate constant per mile costs in access price specifications. This study proposes two alternative approaches introduce user-specific driving into models. The first approach is based on a refined measurement engineering considerations. second strategy estimates perceived as function vehicle attributes an empirical framework. We find strong evidence that are...

In many surveys, multiple observations on the dependent variable are collected from a given respondent. The resulting pooled data set is likely to be censored and exhibit cross-sectional heterogeneity. We propose model that addresses both issues by allowing regression coefficients vary randomly across respondents using Geweke-Hajivassiliou-Keane simulator Halton sequences estimate high-order probabilities. show how this framework can usefully applied estimation of power outage costs firms...

Abstract Commodity equivalence and population similarity are two widely accepted paradigms for the valid transfer of welfare estimates across resource valuation contexts. We argue that strict adherence to these rules may leave relevant information untapped, propose a Bayesian model search algorithm examines probabilities with which or more sub‐sets meta‐data, each corresponding different combination commodity population, share common value distributions. Using large meta‐data set...

In past studies of consumer loyalty changes in brand attributes over time were generally unobservable and treated as additional model parameters. this study we consider ski resorts, for which observable quality change frequently. Using a repeated-purchase with observed time-variant attributes, indicators state dependence, individual heterogeneity, show that purchase history site characteristics have significant offsetting effect on repurchase decisions. This suggests third category along...

Abstract This study demonstrates how the joint distribution of a set conditional trip counts to system recreation‐sites can be adjusted for on‐site sampling. An econometric approach is proposed that addresses both size‐biased sampled visits and weighted reported ancillary destinations in multivariate random utility framework. Estimation results indicate uncorrected models produce biased estimates welfare measures. The empirical application examines jet skiing Lake Tahoe region.

As developing nations look to become more competitive in world agricultural markets, genetically modified (GM) crops are one avenue of pursuit. However, fears primary export market loss, negative media attention, and adverse government regulations often hinder GM crop implementation increase food risk perceptions among domestic consumers. The past decade has witnessed significant advances in the microeconometric analysis of recreation data. In this review, we focus on two areas which these innovations have been especially prolific: accounting for unobserved preference heterogeneity and controlling possibly endogenous site characteristics, such as congestion. Failure to appropriately address issues with nonlinear models typically used demand can severely bias parameter welfare estimates. We consider widespread importance...

Abstract This study evaluates consumer purchase propensity for genetically modified (GM) food products in Romania, shedding light on preferences developing Eastern European nations. Results based a bivariate probit model of GM sunflower oil and table potatoes show that consumers Romania are generally opposed to consumption, similar Western Europe, but contrary many Purchase probabilities carry across foods, indicating homogeneity risk perceptions. Additionally, income levels perceptions the...
