Purpose : Flattening filter free (FFF) beams generated by medical linear accelerators have recently started to be used in radiotherapy clinical practice. Such present fundamental differences with respect the standard flattened (FF) beams, making generally dosimetric parameters and definitions not always viable. The study will propose possible suggestions for some use quality assurance of FFF linacs radiotherapy. Methods main characteristics photon been analyzed using specific data a Varian...

Purpose: Phase-space files for Monte Carlo simulation of the Varian TrueBeam beams have been made available by Varian. The aim this study is to evaluate accuracy distributed phase-space flattening filter free (FFF) beams, against experimental measurements from ten Linacs. Methods: used as input in PRIMO, a recently released program based on thePENELOPE code. Simulations 6 and 10 MV FFF were computed virtual water phantom field sizes 3 × 3, 6, cm2 using 1 mm3 voxels 20 40 with 2 voxels....

Abstract The dosimetric leaf gap (DLG) and tongue‐and‐groove (T&G) effects are critical aspects in the modeling of multileaf collimators (MLC) treatment planning system (TPS). In this study, we investigated impact limitations associated with T&G stereotactic plans its relationship need for tuning DLG Eclipse TPS. Measurements were carried out using Varian TrueBeam STx systems from two different institutions. Test fields presenting MLC patterns several sizes (meanGap) amounts effect...

To demonstrate the feasibility of characterising MLCs and MLC models implemented in TPSs using a common set dynamic beams. A tests containing synchronous (SG) asynchronous sweeping gaps (aSG) was distributed among twenty-five participating centres. Doses were measured with Farmer-type ion chamber computed TPSs, which provided dosimetric characterisation leaf tip, tongue-and-groove, transmission each MLC, as well an assessment model TPS. Five types four evaluated, covering most frequent...

This paper illustrates a tissue-equivalent proportional counter designed to have high gas gain and good energy resolution at nanometric simulated site sizes. Microdosimetric neutron gamma spectra were measured in dimethyl ether propane-based mixture down 35 nm. The comparison of experimental data with the results Monte Carlo calculations shows satisfactory agreement.

Introduction The use of flattening filter free (FFF) beams generated by standard linear accelerators is increasing in the clinical practice. radiation intensity peaked toward beam central axis properly managed optimization process treatment planning through modulation. Specific FFF parameters for profile analysis, as unflatness and slope beams, based on renormalization factor concept has been introduced quality assurance purposes. Recently, Halcyon, an O‐ring accelerator equipped with a 6 MV...

Purpose To investigate (i) the dosimetric leaf gap (DLG) and effect of “trailing distance” between leaves from different multileaf collimator (MLC) layers in Halcyon systems (ii) ability currently available treatment planning (TPSs) to approximate this effect. Methods DICOM plans with transmission beams sweeping tests were created Python for measuring DLG each MLC layer independently both combined. In clinical are interchangeably used offset, thus forming a trailing pattern. characterize...

For a given prescribed dose of radiotherapy, with the successive generations calculation algorithms, more monitor units (MUs) are generally needed. Commercial TPSs typically model the tongue-and-groove (TG) by extending projections of leaf sides a certain constant width. However, this may produce discrepancies as much 7%-10% in calculated average doses, especially for High Definition multi-leaf collimator (MLC) (Hernandez et al 2017 Phys. Med. Biol. 62 6688-707). The purpose present study is to introduce and validate new method modelling TG that uses non We provide theoretical background detailed methodology determine optimal shape...
