SARS-CoV-2 variant proportions in a population can be estimated through genomic sequencing of clinical specimens or wastewater samples. We demonstrate strong pairwise correlation between statewide estimates Oregon, USA, derived from both methods (correlation coefficient 0.97). Our results provide crucial evidence the effectiveness community-level surveillance.

We evaluated the association between wastewater concentration and weekly percent positivity of patient testing for SARS-CoV-2, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus in Oregon, USA. found strong, positive correlations SARS-CoV-2 (ρ = 0.84, p<0.001), influenza 0.73, p<0.001) 0.69, p<0.001).

The true incidence and risk factors for secondary bacterial infections in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains poorly understood. Knowledge of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is necessary to optimally guide selective use empiric antimicrobial therapy.Single-center retrospective cohort study symptomatic inpatients admitted from April 15, 2020, through June 30, 2021.Academic quaternary-care referral center Portland, Oregon. The included who were 18 years or older a positive severe...

Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory characterized by joint and entheseal inflammation seen in 30% patients with psoriasis (Pso). In 90% of patients, Pso precedes PsA. Inhibitors tumor necrosis factor (TNFi) are efficacious treatment options for both, though whether they prevent development incident PsA unknown. Objectives: To determine if the use TNFi reduces risk developing psoriatic compared to those treated methotrexate alone. Methods: Records on all at...

Abstract Cryptosporidium , a eukaryotic protozoan parasite, poses significant public health risk as cause of waterborne disease worldwide. Clinical surveillance cryptosporidiosis is estimated to be largely underreported due the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic infections, clinical misdiagnoses, barriers access testing. Unlike surveillance, wastewater overcomes these limitations could serve an effective tool for identifying at population level. Despite its potential, lack standardized...
