Illicit opioids, consisting largely of fentanyl, novel synthetic and adulterants, are the primary cause drug overdose fatality in United States. Xylazine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist veterinary tranquilizer, is being increasingly detected among decedents following illicit opioid overdose. Clinical outcomes non-fatal involving xylazine unexplored. Therefore, emergency department patients with overdose, we evaluated clinical outcome differences for without exposures.
