The Androgen Excess Society (AES) charged a task force to review all available data and recommend an evidence-based definition for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), whether already in use or not, guide clinical diagnosis future research.Participants included expert investigators the field.Based on systematic of published peer-reviewed medical literature, by querying MEDLINE databases, we tried identify studies evaluating epidemiology phenotypic aspects PCOS.The drafted initial report,...

We prospectively estimated the prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as defined by NIH/NICHHD 1990 endocrine criteria, in a population 154 Caucasian women reproductive age reporting spontaneously for blood donation. Anthropometric data; presence hirsutism, acne, and androgenic alopecia; menstrual history were recorded single investigator. In 145 women, samples also obtained measurement serum androgen levels. PCOS was 1) oligomenorrhea, 2) clinical and/or biochemical...

BACKGROUNDThe diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) relies on clinical, biological and morphological criteria. With the advent ultrasonography, follicle excess has become main aspect ovarian morphology (PCOM). Since 2003, most investigators have used a threshold 12 follicles (measuring 2–9 mm in diameter) per whole ovary, but that now seems obsolete. An increase volume (OV) and/or area may also be considered accurate markers PCOM, yet their utility compared with remains unclear.

Context: The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is frequently associated with obesity. However, there are very few data about PCOS in morbid obesity, especially regard to its evolution after bariatric surgery.

Background
Surprisingly, the prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in otherwise unselected overweight or obese women is unknown, despite obesity being frequent patients with PCOS. We conducted present study to obtain an unbiased estimate PCOS and premenopausal from Spain.
Methods
All reporting Department Endocrinology, Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, for dietary treatment May 2002 December 2005 were prospectively recruited. Women referred any other reason...

Abstract Context Gut microbiota play a major role in health and disease by influencing physiology, metabolism, nutrition, immune function. Objective To evaluate the composition of gut women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), focusing on influence sex, sex hormones obesity associations found. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Academic hospital. Participants We recruited 15 PCOS, 16 nonhyperandrogenic control women, men. were classified as nonobese (<30 kg/m2) or obese (≥30...

We have studied whether, or not, tissue-specific regulatory mechanisms provide normal 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations simultaneously in all tissues of a hypothyroid animal receiving thyroxine (T4), an assumption implicit the replacement therapy patients with T4 alone. Thyroidectomized rats were infused placebo 1 10 doses (0.2-8.0 micrograms per 100 grams body weight day). Placebo-infused intact served as controls. Plasma and obtained after 12-13 d infusion. thyrotropin plasma...

We have recently shown that it is not possible to restore euthyroidism completely in all tissues of thyroidectomized rats infused with T4 alone. The present study was undertaken determine whether this achieved when T3 added the continuous sc infusion T4. Thyroidectomized were placebo or (0.80 and 0.90 microgram/100 g BW.day), alone combination (0.10, 0.15, 0.20 BW.day). Placebo-infused intact served as euthyroid controls. Plasma 12 obtained after days infusion. TSH plasma tissue determined...

We conducted a cross-sectional case-control study to evaluate the possible involvement of adiponectin and resistin in pathogenesis polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Seventy-six PCOS patients 40 non-hyperandrogenic women matched for BMI degree obesity were included. Serum levels, anthropometrical hormonal variables, 45 T-->G 276 G-->T polymorphisms gene, -420 C-->G variant analysed.Serum concentrations reduced compared with controls (P = 0.038) irrespective obesity, whereas serum levels...

Low-grade chronic inflammation is involved in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis, serum levels inflammatory cytokines are useful cardiovascular risk markers. We have studied IL-18 concentrations women with polycystic ovary (PCOS), focusing on its relationship obesity indexes insulin resistance. Sixty consecutive PCOS 34 healthy were recruited. Serum lipid hormone profiles measured. The sensitivity index was calculated from glucose during an oral tolerance test. Data...

Objective: Our objective was to evaluate actual prevalences 21-hydroxylase and 11β-hydroxylase deficiencies among women presenting with hyperandrogenic complaints.
