Abstract An estimated 6.3 billion metric tons of post-consumer polymer waste has been produced, with the majority (79%) in landfills or environment. Recycling methods that utilize these polymers could attenuate their environmental impact. For many polymers, recycling via mechanical processes is not feasible and materials are destined for incineration. One salient example superabsorbent material used diapers feminine hygiene products, which contain crosslinked sodium polyacrylates. Here we...
Summary This article presents a framework to evaluate emerging systems in life cycle assessment (LCA). Current LCA methods are effective for established systems; however, lack of data often inhibits robust analysis future products or processes that may benefit the most from information. In many cases inventory (LCI) system can change depending on its development pathway. Modeling allows insights into probable trends and greater understanding effect scenarios results. The proposed uses...
A simple model, based on the Green-Ampt approach, for describing one-dimensional vertical water infiltrarion into nonuniform soils under rain application is presented. The model contains three measurable input parameters which are properties and initial soil profile conditions. performance compared against another derived from general flow theory a good agreement found. comparison made different profiles intensities. of illustrated by numerical examples. Conditions surface saturation ponding...
Summary The study of industrial symbiosis (IS) has largely focused on the exchange energy and materials among processes in an effort to increase value reduce environmental impact. Agricultural systems, particularly those located developing countries, can benefit from principles IS. Relatively few studies have analyzed potential benefits integrated material flows smallholder farming, even though these systems are considered essential world's food supply poverty reduction. Although concepts be...
Importance In prior monotherapy studies of patients with hypertension, single subcutaneous doses zilebesiran, an investigational RNA interference therapeutic, reduced serum angiotensinogen levels and systolic blood pressure (SBP) at 3 6 months. Objective To evaluate the efficacy safety zilebesiran vs placebo when added to a standard antihypertensive medication. Design, Setting, Participants This phase 2, randomized, prospective, double-blinded trial enrolled adults uncontrolled hypertension...
A two-dimensional water movement within a homogeneous soil profile from surface line source was investigated. In the experiment, various trickle application rates were used to irrigate two types of soil. The effect type and rate on distribution considered. experiment revealed that for same volume water, vertical penetration wetting front decreased horizontal increased as increased. in directions described by an exponential equation pattern approximated semiellipse without significant loss...
Abstract Mature ‘Red Delicious’ apple trees ( Malus pumila Mill) were sprinkled intermittently with an overhead irrigation system after completion of winter rest. A 2-minute sprinkling cycle operated automatically whenever the ambient air temperature orchard exceeded 7°C until control reached full bloom. Evaporative cooling treated reduced bud temperatures to within 2°C wet bulb temperature. Treated bloom 17 days untreated controls.
Although Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has become an important tool in the context of environmental and industrial analysis, its limitations keep it from achieving wider acceptance. One limitation is inability to forecast. LCA can present impacts established processes but cannot do so for emerging or developing products. We propose two different techniques as addition traditional address these In this paper, we compare tools proposed, assess inherent each technique, finally formulate...
Although trickle irrigation offers the possibility of obtaining comparatively good yields when nontoxic highly saline water is used for irrigation, subsequent accumulation salts in root zone a potential hazard that should not be disregarded. The objective this investigation was to determine experimentally soil and salt patterns uniform profiles as result four different management treatments. Under these treatments cherry tomato plants were irrigated (a) daily with volume equal by plant on...
This paper presents a proof of concept model for the electrification process developing countries. Considering general needs and characteristics in those countries is important as they share factors far from developed world situation. However, enough flexibility included to allow implementation individual with unique circumstances. To achieve robust yet flexible model, Agent Based Modeling utilized. The built NetLogo architecture, which combines user interphases geographic information...
Abstract Experiments to verify the validity and evaluate performance of rain infiltration models based on extending Green Ampt approach are lacking in literature. There severe gaps between theory, validity, practicality these models. In this study, a physically‐based model for describing into homogeneous deep stable soil profile with uniform initial water content distribution is presented. The derivation concept mapping actual wetted zone an equivalent rectangular saturated constant...
