During latest Quaternary glaciation, the Black Sea became a giant freshwater lake. The surface of this lake drew down to levels more than 100 m below its outlet. When Mediterranean rose Bosporus sill at 7,150 yr BP1, saltwater poured through spillway refill and submerge, catastrophically, 100,000 km2 exposed continental shelf. permanent drowning vast terrestrial landscape may possibly have accelerated dispersal early neolithic foragers farmers into interior Europe that time.
We analyse the transition state energies for 249 hydrogenation/dehydrogenation reactions of atoms and simple molecules over close-packed stepped surfaces nanoparticles metals using Density Functional Theory. Linear energy scaling relations are observed structures leading to all investigated reactions. With a suitable choice reference systems form universality class that can be approximated with one single linear relation describing entire range types nanoclusters.
A correlation between ceria reducibility and the precious-metal d-band center is reported for ceria-supported catalysts. The results could provide missing link to fully explain occurrence of strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) hydrogen spillover in catalysts that consist dispersed metals contact with reducible metal oxides.
High‐resolution paleogeochemical data from the North Atlantic Ocean indicate that in interval 15,000 to 10,000 14 C years before present (B.P.) Deep Water (NADW) production was decreased or eliminated four times: at about 14,500 (and probably older), 13,500, 12,000 and 10,500 B.P. Each of these changes occurred same time as abrupt events meltwater discharge surface ocean (inferred oxygen isotope studies planktonic foraminifera glacial geological on land). In addition, each times may be...
The carbonate shell of the bivalve Arctica islandica has been recognized, for more than a decade, as potentially important marine geochemical biorecorder owing to this species' great longevity (200+ years) and wide geographic distribution throughout northern North Atlantic Ocean, region vital global climate ocean circulation. However, until now potential not realized difficulty precisely sampling slow growing species. Using newly available automated microsampling techniques combined with...
A method is developed to estimate the potential energy diagram for a full catalytic reaction range of late transition metals on basis calculation (or an experimental determination) single metal. The method, which employs scaling relations between adsorption energies, illustrated by calculating methanation and ammonia synthesis 11 different results calculated Ru. It also shown that considering free reactions, under typical industrial conditions, provides additional insight into reactivity trends.
Large-area time-controlled N-doped graphene films were grown on a Cu foil using an ammonia-assisted atmospheric pressure chemical vapour deposition (APCVD) technique.
Abstract. Supraglacial lakes represent an ephemeral storage buffer for meltwater runoff and lead to significant, yet short-lived, episodes of ice-flow acceleration by decanting large energy fluxes into the ice sheet's hydrological system. Here, a methodology calculating lake volume is used quantify drainage across Russell Glacier, West Greenland, between 2002 2012. Using 502 MODIS scenes, water at ~200 seasonally occurring was derived using depth–reflectance relationship, which independently...
Abstract. We present detailed records of lake discharge, ice motion and passive seismicity capturing the behaviour processes preceding, during following rapid drainage a 4 km2 supraglacial through 1.1-km-thick on western margin Greenland Ice Sheet. Peak discharge 3300 m3 s−1 coincident with maximal rates vertical uplift indicates that surface water accessed ice–bed interface causing widespread hydraulic separation enhanced basal motion. The differential four global positioning system (GPS)...
This study highlights the synthesis and characterization of 2D BCNO films using atmospheric pressure CVD technique.
Abstract Experimentally, it is well known that the overpotentials for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) on RuO 2 and IrO are similar rather low. The question whether widespread computational electrochemistry models based adsorption thermodynamics capable of reproducing such observations. Making use DFT results revised Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (RPBE) (PBE) functionals from six different codes various types pseudopotentials, we show whereas consistently predicted to have low overpotentials, large...
Abstract Annual growth bands of mollusk shells record several types paleoenvironmental information, including geochemical proxies for water properties and morphological characteristics mortality. Sclerochronology, the marine counterpart dendrochronology, offers a way to link individual together form long continuous records such parameters. It also allows precise dating recent identification contemporaneous fossil individuals. The longevity ocean quahog Arctica islandica (commonly >100 yr)...
We have established a laboratory for extracting ΣCO 2 from seawater samples AMS analysis of the radiocarbon content. The are collected at sea, poisoned and stored until in laboratory. Each sample is acidified; inorganic carbon stripped out as CO with an inert carrier gas then converted to graphite. present results Buzzards Bay surface H O Na 3 standards that demonstrate we strip >98% seawater. Stable isotope analyses performed better than 0.2‰, reproducibility 14 C measurements on 13‰....
