Objective
Venous thromboembolism is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality largely preventable. Despite this fact, appropriate prophylaxis vastly underutilized. To improve compliance best practice for VTE in hospitalized trauma patients, we implemented a mandatory computerized provider order entry–based clinical decision support tool. The system required completion of checklists risk factors contraindications to pharmacologic prophylaxis. With tool, were able determine...

All hospitalized patients should be assessed for venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk factors and prescribed appropriate prophylaxis. To improve best-practice VTE prophylaxis prescription all patients, we implemented a mandatory computerized clinical decision support (CCDS) tool. The tool requires completion of checklists to evaluate contraindications pharmacological prophylaxis, then recommends the risk-appropriate regimen. The objective study was examine effect quality improvement intervention...

Prepectoral breast reconstruction has reemerged as a promising alternative to submuscular implants, they place the patient at lower risk for pain, muscular impairment, and animation deformity. However, thinner amount of overlying tissue in prepectoral presents its own unique set challenges. A "rippling" deformity is seen some patients, which typically corrected with fat grafting. This report details our recommended technique grafting prepectorally implanted patient.

Breast reconstruction is becoming an increasingly important and accessible component of breast cancer care. We hypothesize that prepectoral patients benefit from lower short-term complications shorter periods to second-stage compared with individuals receiving in the subpectoral plane. An institutional review board-approved retrospective all adult postmastectomy tissue expanders (TEs) was completed for a 21-month period (n = 286).A total 286 underwent mastectomy followed by TE placement,...

Background: Prepectoral reconstruction using prosthetic devices has demonstrated a notable increase in popularity and confers number of advantages over subpectoral placement, including minimal animation, no pain secondary to muscle spasm, less device displacement or malposition. As such, more women with implants the dual-plane position are seeking remedy for animation deformities, chronic caused by implant The purpose this study was review outcomes following conversion from prepectoral...

Background: Breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) has entered the spotlight, as several high-profile media outlets have begun to relay evolving science public. This study aimed gauge baseline knowledge and concern regarding BIA-ALCL among adult laywomen within United States. Methods: Mechanical Turk was used survey 500 American women on self-reported demographics, prior experience with breast implants, 11 questions their BIA-ALCL. Responses were reviewed for...

Abstract Background As deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flaps have gained popularity in breast reconstruction, the postoperative care of these patients, including appropriate hospital length-of-stay and need for intensive unit (ICU) admission, has become a topic debate. At our institution, we adopted pathway that aims discharge on day 3, utilizing continuous tissue oximetry without ICU admission. This study to evaluate outcomes with this assess its safety feasibility...

Infections following tissue expander (TE) placement are frequent complications in breast reconstruction. While surgery is a clean case, implant-based reconstruction has rates of infection up to 31%, decidedly higher than the typical 1% 2% rate surgical site infections (SSI).
