Abstract A Système probatoire pour l’observation de la terre (SPOT) mosaic of King George Island, the largest (1250 Km 2 ) South Shetland Islands, West Antarctica, shows its major morphological features. Three main ice domes and 70 glacier drainage basins, covering 92.7% Island area, strongly controlled by subglacial morphology drained relatively fast-moving tidewater outlet glaciers, were delineated. general retreat fronts through four decades, more intensely on eastern side island (to...

Urbanization in large cities has altered the urban thermal balance, creating heat islands. In this context, green areas are crucial regulating climate. This study uses remote sensing data to evaluate their performance using fractional vegetation cover (FVC) and its impact on land surface temperature (LST) Metropolitan Lima, Peru, between 1986 2024. The spatial temporal relationship FVC LST is analyzed, districts classified based effectiveness regulation. Mann–Kendall test was applied...

A new topographic database for King George Island, one of the most visited areas in Antarctica, is presented. Data from differential GPS surveys, gained during summers 1997/98 and 1999/2000, were combined with up to date coastlines a SPOT satellite image mosaic, information maps as well Antarctic Digital Database. digital terrain model (DTM) was generated using ARC/INFO GIS. From contour lines derived DTM mosaic map assembled. Extensive on data accuracy, criteria applied select place names...

Variations in the total area covered by four small corrie glaciers eastern slopes of Keller Peninsula, Admiralty Bay, King George Island (KGI) are investigated using a topographical survey, carried out austral summers 1992/93 and 1993/94.For this aerial photographs, satellite images mapping surveys (from 1950s onwards) were compared. All have lost between 44 to 83% their areas from 1979 2000.At least two already some stagnant parts may disappear if present climatic warming trend region persists.

The availability of accurate meteorological data is important for the modeling atmospheric flows, enabling understanding climate change in a given environment over time. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate quality 2 m temperature (T) and mean sea level pressure (MSLP), obtained through reanalysis models ERA5 ERA-Interim (ERA-i) northern region Antarctic Peninsula, covering period from 1979 2018. To carry out statistical process, local observations nine weather stations installed were...

In the Brazilian Pampa, vegetation disturbance and soil degradation led to an expansion of sediment remobilization areas, a process locally termed as sandization. Transported sands generate severe environmental problems hamper growth vegetation. However, parts these sandization areas are quickly covered by biological crusts (biocrusts), which have not been investigated in this biome before. This study describes biocrust occurence Pampa for first time analyses their distribution patterns...
