Background Patients with single-ventricle physiology who undergo the Fontan procedure are at risk for thrombotic events associated significant morbidity and mortality. The UNIVERSE Study evaluated efficacy safety of a novel liquid rivaroxaban formulation, using body weight-adjusted dosing regimen, versus acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in children post-Fontan. Methods Results was randomized, multicenter, 2-part, open-label study rivaroxaban, had undergone procedure, to evaluate its safety,...

The Xin repeat-containing proteins mXinalpha and mXinbeta localize to the intercalated disc of mouse heart are implicated in cardiac development function. directly interacts with beta-catenin, p120-catenin, actin filaments. Ablation results adult late-onset cardiomyopathy conduction defects. An upregulation mXinalpha-deficient hearts suggests a partial compensation. The essential roles maturation were investigated.Ablation led abnormal shape, ventricular septal defects, severe growth...

Cardiac septal overgrowth complicates 10–40% of births from diabetic mothers, but perplexingly hyperglycemia markers during pregnancy are not reliably predictive. We thus tested whether fetal exposure to is sufficient induce cardiac even in the absence systemic maternal diabetes. To isolate effects hyperglycemia, we infused glucose into blood supply left right uterine horn nondiabetic pregnant rats starting on gestational day 19. After 24 h infusion, right-sided fetuses and dams remained...

Abstract Background Maternal diabetes affects the developing fetal cardiovascular system. Newborn offspring of diabetic mothers can have a transient cardiomyopathy. We hypothesized that cardiomyopathic remodeling is associated with activation mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling and apoptotic pathways. Methods To evaluate effects moderate severe maternal hyperglycemia, pregnant rats were made an injection 50 mg/kg streptozotocin. Moderately well controlled was achieved twice...

Reported frequencies of cardiomyopathy in limb girdle muscular dystrophy R9 (LGMDR9) vary. We describe the frequency and age at onset an LDMDR9 cohort.Echocardiograms from 56 subjects (157 echocardiograms) with LGMDR9 were retrospectively reviewed. The cumulative probability having abnormal echocardiogram as a function was assessed by survival analysis for interval-censored data genotype. Correlations between cardiac clinical evaluated.Twenty-five (45%) participants had cardiomyopathy....

<i>Background:</i> In utero exposure to hyperglycemia is becoming increasingly prevalent as the number of women entering pregnancy with type II diabetes, or developing gestational increases. Both animal studies and epidemiologic investigations have found cardiovascular abnormalities in adult offspring hyperglycemic mothers (OHM). <i>Objective:</i> We hypothesized that OHM would abnormal cardiac function vivo increased susceptibility ischemia....

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are prescribed to 6%-10% of pregnant women in the United States. Using an intrauterine plus neonatal exposure model represent throughout human pregnancy, we hypothesized sertraline would impact intracardiac signaling and lead small left heart syndrome absence maternal psychopathology. C57BL/6 adult female mice received (5 mg·kg·d IP) or saline pregnancy time delivery. Pups maintained on postnatal days 1-14 encompass developmental window analogous...

Background As a result of medical and surgical advancements in the management congenital heart disease (CHD), survival rates have improved substantially, which has allowed focus CHD to shift toward neurodevelopmental outcomes. Previous studies neuropathology occurring focused on cases preceding 1995 reported high white matter injury intracranial hemorrhage, but do not reflect improvements past 2 decades. The purpose this study is therefore characterize neuropathological lesions identified...

Acquired intracardiac left-to-right shunts are rare occurrences. Chest trauma and myocardial infection well-known causes of acquired ventricular septal defect (VSD). There have been several case reports describing left ventricle to right atrium shunt after infective endocarditis (IE). We present here a patient found an VSD secondary IE the aortic tricuspid valves in setting known bicuspid valve. This is first reported pediatric along with literature review shunts.

A mycotic aneurysm is a rare condition occasionally seen in patients with history of prior cardiac or vascular surgery. We discuss diagnosis, treatment management this condition.
