To update the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) recommendations for vaccination in adult patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIIRD) published 2011. Four systematic literature reviews were performed regarding incidence/prevalence of vaccine-preventable infections among AIIRD; efficacy, immunogenicity and safety vaccines; effect anti-rheumatic drugs on response to household AIIRDs patients. Subsequently, formulated based evidence expert opinion. The updated...

Objectives. To determine whether tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α blockers may reduce carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) steadily responsive to such therapy. Methods. From 287 consecutive RA attending our out-patient clinic and diagnosed on the basis of American College Rheumatology (ACR) criteria, 49 without traditional cardiovascular risk factors meeting requirements for TNF-α therapy were selected. Among them, 39 actually started...

One-hundred and twenty-eight enterococcal isolates were examined for their ability to form biofilm in relation the presence of gene encoding surface protein (esp), production gelatinase source isolation. Neither esp nor seemed be required formation: both Enterococcus faecalis faecium did not show a correlation between either or formation. However, E. while was found from source, together only strains clinical settings, suggesting that there exists synergy these factors which serves as an...

Infections which complicate rheumatic diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Spondyloarthropathy (SpA) (Psoriatic [PA] Ankylosing Spondylitis [AS]), may cause significant morbidity mortality. However, among the studies on incidence rate (IR) of infections in patients, very few have involved controls results been controversial, probably due to methodological difficulties. To estimate infection rates RA SpA patients under disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), corticosteroids...

This report describes a new flow cytometry technique to measure phagocytic activity and discriminate simultaneously between internalized membrane-bound particles. Fluorescein-conjugated heat-killed Candida albicans (F-Ca) are opsonized with purified antibodies or normal human serum used as targets for polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMN). The procedure is based on the observation that F-Ca lose their green fluorescence acquire red upon incubation ethidium bromide (EB) through resonance...

Abstract Background In early childhood, the allergen‐specific IgG repertoire is mainly directed to animal and vegetable food molecules infrequently airborne molecules. It unknown whether this pattern maintained throughout childhood. Objective To investigate evolution of IgE responses a broad panel allergenic from birth age 10 years. In Italy, a dramatic decline of hepatitis B infection occurred in recent years as result nonmedical and medical factors. The national type-specific surveillance system shows that the age maximum incidence changed from early childhood, when risk becoming chronic carrier after is very high, to late adolescence. Data several seroepidemiologic studies are consistent with this picture, but could not be compared previous data on similar groups. 1981, study sample 5,005 recruits showed high...

Four groups identified this study: (1) 0.3% of subjects had no serum SIgA; (2) 1.6% showed partial SIgA deficiency; (3) 27.4% individuals tonsillectomized deficiency but normal SIgA, (4) 71.4% normal, both with respect to SIgA. These results stress the relatively high incidence population confirm role tonsils maintaining levels.
