The main objective of the present study is to demonstrate feasibility utilizing a novel non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) device induce lethal thermal damage subcutaneous adipose tissue only by establishing controlled electric field that heats up fat preferentially.Adipocyte cells in six-well plates were subjected hyperthermic conditions: 45, 50, 55, 60, and 65 degrees C during 1, 2, 3 minutes. Cell viability was assessed 72 hours after exposure. Two groups abdominoplasty patients treated...
A key reason for the persistently grim statistics associated with metastatic ovarian cancer is resistance to conventional agents, including platinum-based chemotherapies. major source of treatment failure high degree genetic and molecular heterogeneity, which results from significant underlying genomic instability, as well stromal physical cues in microenvironment. Ovarian commonly disseminates via transcoelomic routes distant sites, frequent production malignant ascites, poorest prognosis....
Conventional autologous skin grafts are associated with significant donor-site morbidity. This study was conducted to determine feasibility, safety, and efficacy of a new strategy for grafting based on harvesting small columns full-thickness minimal morbidity. The swine model used this study. Hundreds tissue (~700 µm diameter) were harvested using custom-made device, then applied directly excisional wounds. Healing in donor graft sites evaluated over 3 months by digital photographic...
Sprayable formulations of AgNPs were prepared by exchanging citrate capping agents with LL37-SH peptides. The AgNP@LL37 material was then combined type I collagen to form a stable film once sprayed. spray prevented Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) proliferation and eradicated P. biofilm, while being non-toxic for human skin fibroblasts embedded within 3D artificial constructs. Finally, no silver infiltration observed after spraying on full-thickness wound in mouse model.
Abstract Background and Objectives Presently, cutaneous vascular lesions are treated using a single cryogen spurt laser pulse (SCS‐SLP), which do not necessarily produce complete lesion removal in the majority of patients. In this study, feasibility applying multiple spurts intermittently with two‐wavelength pulses (MCS‐MTWLP) was studied numerical animal models. Study Design/Materials Methods Two treatment procedures were simulated: (1) SCS+532 nm SLP; (2) MCS+532/1064 MTWLP. Light...
Background and Objective Radiofrequency currents are commonly used in dermatology to treat cutaneous subcutaneous tissues by heating. The morphology of tissue consists a fine, collagenous fibrous septa network enveloping clusters adipocyte cells. architecture this network, namely density orientation septa, varies among patients and, furthermore, it correlates with cellulite grading. In work we study the effect two clinically relevant architectures on thermal elastic response same RF...
Background and Objective Molecules native to tissue that fluoresce upon light excitation can serve as reporters of cellular activity protein structure. In skin, the fluorescence ascribed tryptophan is a marker proliferation, whereas cross-links collagen structural marker. this work, we introduce demonstrate simple but robust optical method image functional process epithelialization exposed dermal in wound healing human skin an organ culture model. Materials Methods Non-closing non-grafted,...
Abstract Background Wound healing monitoring and timely decision‐making are critical for wound classification. Tryptophan (Tr) intrinsic fluorescence, detected at 295/340 nm, provides a noninvasive approach assessment. Our previous work demonstrated that this autofluorescence is associated with keratinocytes in highly proliferative state vitro. Objective We investigated the correlation between Tr fluorescence key parameters, including re‐epithelialization, fibrosis, neovascularization, acute...
Cryogen spray cooling (CSC) is a heat extraction process that protects the epidermis from thermal damage during dermatologic laser surgery. The objective of present work to investigate radial and temporal variations in transferred through surface skin phantom CSC.A fastresponse sensor used measure temperatures every 1 mm across 16 diameter sprayed phantom. An analytical expression based on Fourier's law Duhamel's theorem compute fluxes temperature measurements. Results show boundary conditions...
Abstract Background and Objective The objective of the present study was to demonstrate feasibility varying size heating volume subcutaneous adipose tissue using a novel radiofrequency (RF) technology that controls delivered energy distribution on skin surface. Study Design/Materials Methods Changes in electric potential at surface due frequency adjustment RF device were experimentally characterized human 500 kHz, 1, 2, 3, 4 MHz. These measurements used model RF‐induced fields power...
Abstract Background and Objectives In a recent case study, the use of suction device to aid in port wine stain (PWS) laser treatments showed favorable results. It is our objective further understand mechanisms vacuum‐assisted therapy by analyzing mechanical optical changes skin musculoskeletal tissues during application mild vacuum pressure from cup. Study Design/Materials Methods A mathematical model tissue deformation was used determine morphology that affect underlying laser‐tissue...
A novel strategy is needed for treating nonhealing wounds, which able to simultaneously eradicate pathogenic bacteria and promote tissue regeneration. This would improve patient outcome reduce the number of lower limb amputations. In this work, we present a multifunctional therapeutic approach control bacterial infections, provide protective barrier full-thickness wound, wound healing in clinically relevant animal model. Our uses nanoengineered antimicrobial nanoparticle creating sprayable...
Carbon monoxide (CO) exposure is a leading cause of poison-related mortality. CO binds to Hb, forming carboxyhemoglobin (COHb), and produces tissue damage. Treatment poisoning requires rapid removal restoration oxygen delivery. Visible light known effectively dissociate from with single photon dissociating one molecule. To determine whether illumination the lungs CO-poisoned mice causes dissociation COHb blood transiting lungs, releasing into alveoli thereby enhancing rate elimination.We...
Fluorescence excitation provides the ability to interrogate innate molecules whose radiation emission correlates with specific functional states of tissue. The present study demonstrates effectiveness a novel ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence photography system in its image rapidly proliferating epidermal skin lesions by capturing endogenous emissions attributed tryptophan.A clinical prototype UV was used acquire images ascribed tryptophan.Twelve human subjects and 11 ex vivo samples various...
Radiofrequency (RF) energy exposure is a popular non-invasive method for generating heat within cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues. Subcutaneous fat consists of fine collagen fibrous septa meshed with clusters adipocytes having distinct structural, electrical thermal properties that affect the distribution deposition RF energy. The objectives this work are to (i) determine electric effects in heating; (ii) investigate heating individual lobules enclosed by septa; and, (iii) discuss clinical...
Extracorporeal blood phototherapy increases carbon monoxide elimination in rats and improves survival animals with associated lung injury.
BACKGROUND Autofluorescence photography can detect specific light–tissue interactions and record important pathophysiological changes associated with nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), which has been ascribed to the fluorescence of an aromatic amino acid, tryptophan. OBJECTIVE To assess impact a novel, autofluorescence imaging (AFI) device on margin control for NMSCs before Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) in effort decrease overall operating time. METHODS Before initial stage MMS, were measured...
