Little is known about long-term recovery from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease, especially in nonhospitalized individuals. In this longitudinal study we present symptoms registered during the acute phase as well long COVID (ie, long-lasting COVID-19 symptoms) patients Faroe Islands. All consecutive with confirmed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing April to June 2020 were invited participate for assessment of COVID. Demographic and clinical characteristics...
There are concerns that the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 Omicron variant evades immune responses due to an unusually high number of mutations on spike protein. Here, we report a superspreading event infections among 21 33 triple-vaccinated healthcare workers who attended private gathering.
Omicron appears to lead a milder illness for patients compared with previous COVID-19 variants. However, not all infected would describe their as mild. In this study, we investigate the experienced severity and symptoms of variant. We conducted nationwide cross-sectional including 5036 individuals ages, consisting reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases from 1 January 31 2022 (n = 4506) control group without SARS-COV-2 infection in December 2021 or 530). was...
The severity of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent mitigation strategies have varied across Nordic countries. In a joint population-based effort, we compared patterns new cancer cases notifications between countries during 2020. We used pathology to registries in Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway Sweden determine monthly numbers malignant situ tumours from January December 2020 2019 (2017-2019 for Iceland Islands). per month based on unique individuals with notifications....
Persistence of COVID-19 symptoms in nonhospitalized individuals beyond a few months has not been well characterized. In this longitudinal study from the Faroe Islands, we present prevalence long COVID mainly patients who were followed up for to 8 months. All Faroese with confirmed diagnosis August December 2020 invited participate (n = 297). Demographic and clinical characteristics self-reported ascertained prospectively using detailed questionnaire administered at repeated phone interviews.A...
Symptoms of long coronavirus disease (COVID) were found in 38% 170 patients followed for a median 22.6 months. The most prevalent symptoms fatigue, affected taste and smell, difficulties remembering concentrating. Predictors COVID older age number the acute phase. Long may take many months, maybe years, to resolve.
We conducted a nationwide study of the prevalence severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection in Faroe Islands. Of 1,075 randomly selected participants, 6 (0.6%) tested seropositive for antibodies to virus. Adjustment test sensitivity and specificity yielded 0.7% prevalence. Our findings will help us evaluate our public health response.
ABSTRACT Background Sex differences in lung cancer survival are well‐established, but the gap between Faroese men and women is especially pronounced. have some of highest 1‐ 5‐year relative rates Nordic region, while lowest. This study investigates these disparities by analyzing demographic, clinical, temporal factors patients from 2015 to 2020. Methods All cases registered Cancer Registry 2020 were included. Data on age, sex, civil status, type, stage, smoking history, comorbidities,...
Background and purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted substantially on cancer healthcare, including the temporary suspension of screening activities. We compared incidence rates stage during 2020–2021 to pre-pandemic in Nordic countries. Material methods: Using data from national registries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, we estimated age-, sex-, period-adjusted rate ratios, expressed as relative percentage change (%) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), comparing those 2017–2019...
Abstract Background The durability of SARS‐CoV‐2 antibody response and the resulting immunity to COVID‐19 is unclear. Objectives To investigate long‐term humoral SARS‐CoV‐2. Methods In this nationwide, longitudinal study, we determined in 411 patients aged 0–93 years from two waves infections (March December 2020) contributing 1063 blood samples. Each individual had drawn on 4–5 occasions 1–15 months after disease onset. We measured total anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 receptor‐binding domain (RBD) using a...
Aim of the article We present our new GDPR-compliant federated analysis programme (nordcan.R), how it is used to compute statistics for Nordic cancer web platform NORDCAN, and demonstrate that works also with non-Nordic data. Materials methods chose R Stata programming languages writing nordcan.R. Additionally, internationally CRG Tools by International Agency Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO) was employed. A formal assessment (GDPR-compliant) anonymity all nordcan.R outputs performed. In order...
Abstract The Faroe Islands was one of the first countries in Western Hemisphere to eliminate coronavirus disease (COVID-19). During epidemic wave country, 187 cases were reported between March 3 and April 22, 2020. Large-scale testing thorough contact tracing implemented early on, along with lockdown measures. Transmission chains mapped through patient history knowledge prior cases. most common COVID-19 symptoms fever, headache, cough, but 11.2% asymptomatic. Among cases, 8 patients admitted...
Abstract There are concerns that the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant evades immune responses due to unusually high numbers of mutations on spike protein. Here we report a super-spreading event infections amongst triple-vaccinated healthcare workers, infecting 21 33 attending private gathering in Faroe Islands.
Purpose: In this paper, we present age-standardized cancer incidence and mortality rates in the Faroe Islands. We also compare with Nordic show rate ratios (IRR) (MRR).Materials methods: The Faroese registry (FCR) was established 1994, available from 1960 1983. FCR is a part of NORDCAN collaboration, where different countries all report anonymized data by standardized methods, ensuring comparability. Validation efforts revealed that 13% cases had not been reported to 2006 2019, emphasizing...
Abstract Only a few studies have assessed the long-term duration of humoral immune response against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this nationwide longitudinal study from Faroe Islands with close to full participation all individuals on PCR confirmed COVID-19 during two waves infections in spring and autumn 2020 (n=172 & n=233), samples were drawn at three time points (3, 7 12 months 1, 3 after disease onset, respectively). Serum was analyzed direct...
We conducted a second nationwide severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 seroprevalence study in the Faroe Islands during November 2020. found crude was 0.3% and prevalence 0.4% after adjusting for test sensitivity specificity. This low supports prevention strategies used Islands.
In a population-based setting, we investigated the risks of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 and developing severe COVID-19 outcomes among cancer patients compared with general population. In nationwide cohorts, identified all individuals in Norway, Denmark Iceland who tested or had outcome (hospitalisation, intensive care, death) from March until December 2020, using data national health registries. We estimated standardised incidence ratios (SIRs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) comparing...
Abstract Close contacts of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients are at high risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. We assessed the seroprevalence SARS-CoV-2–specific antibodies among quarantined close COVID-19 in Faroe Islands. invited index identified during March 3–April 22, 2020, to participate this study; 584 (81%) consented and underwent serologic testing. Among participants, 32 (5.5%) were seropositive total antibody against SARS-CoV-2. Household young...
As sustained development in cancer treatment protocols have led to improved survival most areas of the world, surveillance is needed ensure that small populations follow suit. Our study reports age-standardized relative Faroe Islands compared other Nordic countries. We present 1- and 5-year estimates corresponding 95% confidence intervals for compare them with The data this article has been obtained through NORDCAN collaboration (2019 data). Age-standardized was estimated using shared R...
This study is the first report regarding childhood cancer in Faroe Islands and describes incidence survival of over last 60 years Islands.
Abstract We present a case with unusual findings on nuclear imaging after mild SARS-CoV-2 infection. 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography showed activity in the lower thoracic spinal column, portal lymph nodes, and terminal ileum surrounding all suspicious for metastatic cancer. Three months later, had either disappeared or were considered reactive.
