Using a bidirectional freezing technique, combined with uniaxial pressing and in situ polymerization, “nacre-mimetic” hydroxyapatite/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites are developed by processing large-scale aligned lamellar ceramic scaffolds. Structural mechanical characterization shows “brick-and-mortar” structures, akin to nacre, interesting combinations of strength, stiffness, work fracture, which provide pathway making strong tough lightweight materials.
Abstract Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) have demonstrated great potential in catalysis, and as supercapacitors adsorbents. Since the introduction of organic–organic self-assembly approach 2004/2005 until now, direct synthesis OMCs is still limited to wet processing phenol-formaldehyde polycondensation, which involves soluble toxic precursors, acid or alkali catalysts, requires multiple steps, thus restricting widespread application OMCs. Herein, we report a simple, general, scalable...
Conventional superhydrophobic materials for oil/water separation were usually prepared from nondegradable and nonrenewable resources, which would not only increase resource crisis but also cause environmental pollution after discarding. Background It is not clear whether the progressive changes in brain microstructural deficits documented previous longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies might be due to disease process or other factors such as medication. important explore alterations white-matter (WM) microstructure antipsychotic-naive patients with first-episode schizophrenia during very early phase of treatment when relatively ‘free’ from chronicity. Method Thirty-five and 22 healthy volunteers were...
Metal oxides with high porosity usually exhibit better performance in many applications, as compared the corresponding bulk materials. Template-assisted method is generally employed to prepare porous metal oxides. However, template-assisted commonly operated wet conditions, which requires solvents, soluble oxide precursors, and a long time for drying. To overwhelm those drawbacks of procedure, mechanochemical nanocasting developed current work. Inspired by solid-state synthesis, this...
Insolubility and toxicity of TP restrict clinical applications in renal diseases. Here, TP-encapsulated mesoscale nanoparticles offer a new therapeutic strategy for diseases due to good biocompability, kidney targeting slow release.
Reversible Pickering emulsions, achieved by switchable, interfacially active colloidal particles, that enable on-demand emulsification/demulsification or phase inversion, hold substantial promise for biphasic catalysis, emulsion polymerization, cutting fluids, and crude oil pipeline transportation. However, particles with such a responsive behavior usually require complex chemical syntheses surface modifications, limiting their extensive use. Herein, we report simple route to generate...
