Purpose.: To identify sex-related differences and age-related changes in individual retinal layer thicknesses a population of healthy eyes across the lifespan, using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Methods.: In seven institutes Japan, mean nerve fiber (RNFL), ganglion cell (GCL), inner plexiform (IPL), nuclear (INL), outer (OPL), (ONL), photoreceptor segment (IS), (OS) were measured SD-OCT with new automated segmentation protocol 256 subjects. Results.: Interoperator...

Purpose.: To demonstrate the three-dimensional macular thickness distribution in normal subjects by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and evaluate its association with sex, age, axial length. Methods.: Mean regional retinal measurements on Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) layout were obtained raster scanning (6 × 6 mm) using SD-OCT 248 eyes of Japanese subjects. Results.: foveal was 222 ± 19 μm; it significantly greater men (226 μm) than women (218 18 P...

Objectives
To evaluate the peripapillary distribution of retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) in normal eyes using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography and to study potentially related factors.
Methods
In 7 institutes Japan, RNFLT concentric circles with diameters ranging from 2.2 4.0 mm were measured 251 ophthalmologically subjects. Multiple regression analysis for association sex, age, axial length, disc area was performed.
Results
Retinal...

We studied the relationship between intraocular pressure (IOP) and progression of visual filed loss in 83 eyes patients with advanced primary open-angle glaucoma (loss at least one quarter field on Goldmann perimetry). During 15-year follow-up study, 71 (86%) showed loss. The mean IOP was significantly lower that remained stable (13.4 +/- 1.3 mm Hg) than those (19.4 2.6 Hg). These results suggest it is necessary to reduce below 15 Hg prevent further glaucoma.

We studied the prevalence of migraine in low-tension glaucoma (LTG) and primary open-angle (POAG). Seventy seven Japanese patients with LTG, 73 POAG, 75 normal subjects were randomly selected tested a headache questionnaire. The or without typical migrainous features (unilateral ocular pain, nausea, vomiting, visual disturbance before headache) was 51% 42% 44% patients. two more (probable migraine) 17% 11% 12% subjects. three (classical 5% 3% There no statistically significant difference any...

To evaluate the relation between optic disc size and thickness of peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) in normal Japanese subjects by means scanning laser polarimetry.Scanning polarimetry was performed 60 subjects. One eye each subject randomly selected for study. Using a polarimeter, integral RNFL measured totally regionally within circular band located 1.75 diameters from centre disc. The correlation examined. The showed significant with (R = 0.497, p < 0.001). A negative observed...

To study the relationship between optic nerve head blood flow velocity and visual field loss in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) normal tension (NTG).This included 44 eyes of POAG NTG. evaluate velocity, square blur rate (SBR) was measured by means laser speckle flowgraphy. The correlation SBR Humphrey indices evaluated linear regression analysis. In NTG group, average at superior inferior temporal neuroretinal rim positively correlated mean deviation (MD) (r = 0.349, p...

Visual disturbance in 11 patients with melanocytoma of the optic disk was analyzed. Goldmann visual field examination showed enlargement Mariotte's blind spot 7 10 (70%) and defect or depression (70%). In 6 (86%), portion damage corresponded location tumor retinal nerve fiber bundle defect. 1 patient, sudden loss acuity occurred, presumably due to anterior ischemic neuropathy induced by melanocytoma.

Purpose: To investigate the correlation coefficients between intraocular pressure (IOP) before and after adjusting for central corneal thickness (CCT) biomechanical properties. Patients methods: A total of 218 eyes patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (mean age =71.5 years; mean spherical equivalent =-0.51 D; deviation determined by Humphrey visual field analyzer =-3.22 dB) were included in this study. The tIOP tIOPCCT, which adjusted CCT (with meaning IOP not CCT, as using CT-1P;...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate usefulness in normal subjects and patients glaucoma hypertension. This included 175 eyes subjects. Firstly, IOP measured using without (NTn). Secondly, at peak, middle, trough phases signal were (NTp, NTm, NTt, respectively). Additionally, Goldmann...
