Non-native forest tree species have been introduced in Europe since the 16th century, but only second half of 20th century significance seed source origin for their economic use was recognized, resulting establishment numerous provenance trials at a national, regional, European and International level, as those led by IUFRO. Breeding programs also launched continent most economically important species. Aim this work is formulation recommendations planting five non-native (Douglas fir, grand...
This study explores the population structure, hybridization, and adaptation of Juniperus communis sensu lato in context its current habitat fragmentation, using inter-primer binding site markers needle morphometry. Three native juniper taxa Slovakia were analyzed: J. ssp. communis, nana, their putative hybrid, nothovar. intermedia. The results reveal a moderate overall structure (ΦPT = 0.115, p 0.001), indicating high gene flow within low between nana. However, after correcting for...
Somatic embryogenesis was initiated from immature zygotic embryos of intraspecific cross ofAbies alba and interspecific combination x Abies nordmanniana. The most responsive explants for induction embryogenic calli were in precotyledonary stage development. Biochemically the compared lines uniform irrespective their morphology or potential. flow cytometric analysis single suggests that no changes ploidy levels occur during culture callus inAbies what confirms convenience this system...
The dependency of radicle elongation in Abies numidica somatic embryos on germination media has been studied. No significant differences were detected between the Murashige and Skoog (MS) Schenk Hildebrandt (SH) medium. addition 10 g dm-3 activated charcoal or 0.05 mg indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) into both had positive influence embryo germination. Difference IBA effects significant. high rooting percentage (85 %) was recorded half SH medium with sucrose charcoal. After increased to 95 %....
Abstract Molecular evidence for spontaneous hybridization between Pinus sylvestris L. and P. mugo Turra in the putative hybrid swarm populations of species Slovakia was provided based on PCR-RFLP analysis cpDNA trnV-trnH region. Species-specific restriction profiles generated by Hinf I digests products reliably identified haplotypes embryos from open pollination. Simultaneous respective region megagametophytes individual seeds along with needles a given maternal tree has enabled to score...
Abstract For non-native tree species with an origin outside of Europe a detailed compilation enemy including the severity their attack is lacking up to now. We collected information on native and attacking trees, i.e. type, extent time first observation damage for 23 important trees in 27 European countries. Our database includes about 2300 synthesised records (synthesised per biotic threat, country) from over 800 species. Insects (49%) fungi (45%) are main observed threats, but also...
Abstract Pollen viability, dispersion ability and longevity during deep-freezer storage were studied in three Juniperus taxa distributed Slovakia. All these characteristics of pollen are closely related to the pollination and/or fertilization success junipers nature. viability varied considerably between populations J. communis one population each, sibirica var. intermedia . germination rate ranged 40.75% 75.06%, tube length 30.32 40.41 µm. A clear tendency indicates a higher from lower...
Efficiency of the method for improving repetitive somatic embryogenesis and plant recovery Algerian fir (Abies numidica De Lann.) was investigated by evaluating induction frequency, maturation capacity germination. Individual zygotic embryos differed only slightly in frequencies (6.8 %) from first (5.7 second cycle (5.5-9.0 %). The yield mature significantly among cell lines same different cycles. Percentage abnormalities lowest embryos, whereas third cycles were branded a higher frequency...
Abstract Pollen storage belongs among the most important activities associated with pollen handling. It overcomes differences in shedding and ovule receptivity during controlled pollination experiments. is especially for species like common juniper ( Juniperus communis L.) an extremely low quality of seeds due to failure. Additionally, it a substantial part germplasm preservation programmes banks. In present paper, effect short-term was studied using samples from five shrubs vitro...
