The aim of the present study was to compare direct detection methods Ehrlichia canis (blood smears and nested PCR), serological tests (Dot-ELISA Immunofluorescent Antibody Test - IFAT), demonstrate most suitable test for diagnosis different stages infection. Blood samples clinical data were collected from 30 dogs examined at Veterinary Teaching Hospital, UNESP, Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil. signs frequently observed apathy, anorexia, pale mucous membrane, fever, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly,...
Mammary neoplasms are a heterogeneous form of disease, and in order to determine its course biological features with more accuracy, investigations based on tumor phenotypes required. The aim the present study was propose validate phenotypic classification for canine mammary tumors assess any association between clinicopathological characteristics, survival prognosis. For immunohistochemistry analysis, primary antibodies against estrogen receptor-α, progesterone receptor, human epidermal...
Abstract Lymphoma is the most common type of canine hematological malignancy where multicentric (cMCL) form accounts for 75% all cases. The standard treatment CHOP chemotherapy protocols that include cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone, majority dogs achieve complete/partial response; however, it very important to predict non-responsive cases improve develop new targeted therapies. Here we evaluate a liquid biopsy approach based on serum Small Extracellular Vesicles...
An available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was studied for the detection of anti-B. canis antibodies in sera dogs using, indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) as a reference test. ELISA uses soluble antigenic preparation B. and optimal dilutions antigen, serum conjugate were determined by check board titration, using positive negative serum. The antigen merozoites 10 microg x mL(-1), with from single dilution 1:100, conjugated to 1:4.000. A total 246 samples collected during...
Thrombus refers to macrovascular sparing, which interrupts partially or completely blood flow. Its formation involves Virchow's triad, characterized by three main predisposing factors: endothelial injury, vascular stasis and hypercoagulability. The case reported was a canine, with history of thrombotic formations at different times life, one in the splenic vein, undergoing splenectomy, other two right branch portal surgical excision. patient under treatment antithrombotic therapy, but no...
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of in dogs. We evaluated Ki67 immunoexpression and mitotic index (MI) dogs diagnosed with DLBCL treated a 19-wk CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisone) protocol. Twenty-nine lymph node samples from were analyzed for immunostaining, positive cells present 1 cm 2 counted grid reticle comparison survival times above below means. The mean was 107, MI 21. There significant ( p < 0.05) difference median time...
Mast cell tumors represent the most common malignant skin tumor in dog. This review outlines incidence, etiology and clinical signs of mast tumors.Diagnostic tests, staging treatments are also discussed. This study was performed by Veterinary Oncology Pathology UNESP, Jaboticabal Service Veterinary, UNESP-Botucatu with support Brazilian Association Pathology.
The aim of this study was to compare the detection Ehrlichia canis morulae and DNA by nPCR in whole blood spleen aspiration. sample included 40 dogs showing thrombocytopenia associated clinical signs suggestive canine ehrlichiosis. Morulae showed that 35 studied, 17 had tissue, two buffy coat smears. E. detected 29/40 samples. We verified is more efficient cytological preparations from On other hand, on samples were equally for disease diagnosis.
Early diagnosis of canine ehrlichiosis favors prompt institution treatment and improves the prognosis for animal, since this disease causes mortality among dogs. Studies have shown that determining concentration acute-phase proteins (APPs) may contribute towards early detection aid in predicting prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate APP profile dogs experimentally infected with Ehrlichia canis, at start infection after treatment. It also investigated whether any correlation between levels...
Canine ehrlichiosis is caused by the bacterium Ehrlichia canis and characterized a systemic febrile disease of unknown pathogenesis. This study evaluated expression cytokines TNF-α, IL-10, IFN-γ, in splenic cells blood leukocytes during acute phase after treatment with doxycycline hyclate dogs experimentally infected E. Jaboticabal strain. The results showed significant TNF-α 18 days post-inoculation, reducing approximately 70% treatment. There was unique peak IL-10 IFN-γ 30 respectively....
Abstract Anaplasma platys and A. phagocytophilum are tick-borne pathogens that parasitize platelets neutrophils, respectively, of humans animals. The former is the etiological agent canine cyclic thrombocytopenia, while latter granulocytic anaplasmosis. This work involved detection identification species in blood samples from dogs Colombia, using molecular techniques. Between December 2008 April 2009, were drawn cephalic vein 91 central-western region Colombia (cities Bogota, Villavicencio...

Abstract This study aimed at evaluating the behaviour and understanding diagnostic value of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in bitches with mammary carcinoma as a tool for monitoring prognosis canine cancer patients. Serum samples from 77 were divided into four groups, G1 (n = 21), control group (healthy/neoplasia free bitches); G2 31), non‐metastatic less than 3 cm; G3 12), greater and, G4 13) lymph node metastasis. The marker was dosed once G1, whereas G2, G4, CEA levels determined before...
