Abstract This article concerns application of cathodoluminescence (CL) spectroscopy to volcanic quartz and its utility in assessing variation trace quantities Ti within individual crystals. CL provides useful details intragrain compositional variability structure but generally limited quantitative information on element abundances. Microbeam analysis can provide such is time-consuming costly, particularly if large numbers analyses are required. To maximize advantages both approaches, natural...

New geological, bulk chemical and mineralogical (QEMSCAN FEG-EPMA) data are presented for albitite-type uranium deposits of the Mount Isa region Queensland, Australia. Early albitisation interbedded metabasalt metasiltstone predated intense deformation along D2 high strain (mylonite) zones. The early sodic alteration paragenetic stage includes albite, riebeckite, aegirine, apatite, zircon magnetite. This was overprinted by potassic microveins, containing K-feldspar, biotite, coffinite,...

Ureilite meteorites are arguably our only large suite of samples from the mantle a dwarf planet and typically contain greater abundances diamond than any known rock. Some also lonsdaleite, which may be harder diamond. Here, we use electron microscopy to map relative distribution coexisting diamond, graphite in ureilites. These maps show that lonsdaleite tends occur as polycrystalline grains, sometimes with distinctive fold morphologies, partially replaced by + rims cross-cutting veins....
