Blend solutions of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and N-(2-hydroxy)-propyl-3-trimethylammonium chitosan chloride (QCh) were successfully electrospun. The weight ratio PCL/QCh ranged in the interval 95/5-70/30 while two QCh samples used, namely QCh1 (DQ¯ = 47.3%; DPv¯ 2218) QCh2 71.1%; 1427). According to characteristics derivative content on resulting nonwoven, nanofibers displayed different average diameter (175 nm-415 nm), nonwovens exhibited variable porosity (57.0%-81.6%), swelling capacity...

Core-sheath nanofibers were successfully prepared via coaxial electrospinning by using chitosan with well-defined structural characteristics as the shell layer and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) containing tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) core layer. The effects of average degree deacetylation (DD‾) post-electrospinning genipin crosslinking on physicochemical biological properties resulting nonwovens evaluated. Defect-free geometrically uniform diameters predominantly in range 100-300 nm...

This work evaluated antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT), sonodynamic (SDT), and the association of both therapies (sonophotodynamic [SPDT]), mediated by curcumin (Cur) against Staphylococcus aureus biofilm. Next, additional strategies for these treatments were assessed.S. biofilms received PDT, SDT, SPDT, Cur (80 µM), LED light (450 nm), 1 MHz ultrasound. The same also performed adding a strategy: with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), potassium iodide (KI) or pre-treatment Cell viability...

Therapeutic intervention to skin wounds requires covering the affected area with wound dressings. Interdisciplinary efforts have focused on development of smart bandages that can perform multiple functions. In this direction, here, we designed a low cost (U$0.012 per cm2) multifunctional therapeutic dressing fabricated by loading curcumin (CC) into poly(ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers using solution blow spinning (SBS). The freestanding PCL/CC were characterized distinct physicochemical...

Abstract Infectious pneumonia is a major cause of morbidity/mortality, mainly because the increasing rate microorganisms resistant to antibiotics. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) emerging as promising approach, effects are based on oxidative stress, preventing microorganism resistance. In two previous studies, in vitro inactivation Streptococcus pneumoniae using indocyanine green (ICG) and infrared light source was success killing 5 log 10 colony‐forming units (CFU/mL) with only μ mol/L ICG. this...
