We explore the presence of zoonotic flaviviruses (West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu (USUV)) neutralizing antibodies in rarely studied passerine bird species. report, for first time Europe, WNV-specific red avadavat cetti's warbler, USUV yellow-crowned bishop. The evidence WNV circulating resident migratory species has implications both animal public health. Future outbreaks avian reservoir hosts may occur passerines should be considered as priority target flavivirus surveillance programmes.

West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne emerging in Europe with capacity to cause neurological complications such as encephalitis or meningoencephalitis humans, birds equids. In Spain, WNV actively circulating mosquitoes, and horses different regions, but never has been deeply studied Extremadura. Therefore, the aim of this study was evaluate seroprevalence equids those areas analyse risk factors associated exposure virus. A total 199 out 725 presented antibodies against by competition...

Usutu virus (USUV) is an emerging zoonotic arbovirus that has caused increasing number of animal and human cases in Europe recent years. Understanding the vector species avian hosts involved USUV enzootic cycle area active circulation vital to anticipate potential outbreaks. Mosquitoes were captured 2020, while wild birds sampled both 2020 2021 Extremadura, southwestern Spain. The presence mosquito vectors was assessed by a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR)...

Background Vector-borne diseases like West Nile virus (WNV) pose a global health challenge, with rising incidence and distribution. Culex mosquitoes are crucial WNV vectors. Avian species composition bird community diversity, along vector communities, influence transmission patterns. However, limited knowledge exists on their impact in southwestern Spain, an area active circulation wild birds, mosquitoes, humans.
