Abstract The extraction of americium(III), curium(III), and the lanthanides(III) from nitric acid by 6,6′‐bis(5,5,8,8‐tetramethyl‐5,6,7,8‐tetrahydro‐benzo[1,2,4]triazin‐3‐yl)‐[2,2′]bipyridine (CyMe4‐BTBP) has been studied. Since kinetics were slow, N,N′‐dimethyl‐N,N′‐dioctyl‐2‐(2‐hexyloxy‐ethyl)malonamide (DMDOHEMA) was added as a phase transfer reagent. With mixture 0.01 M CyMe4‐BTBP+0.25 DMDOHEMA in n‐octanol, equilibrium reached within 5 min mixing. At concentration 1 M, an americium(III)...
The complexation of Cm(III) and Eu(III) with 2,6-di(5,6-dipropyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine (n-C3H7-BTP) in nonaqueous organic solution is studied extended X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Bond lengths are the same both complexes. Quantum-chemical calculations performed at different levels support this finding. On other hand, Cm.(n-C3H7-BTP)3 complex formed much lower ligand-to-metal concentration ratio than Eu.(n-C3H7-BTP)3 complex, as shown by time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence This...
Abstract The tetradentate ligand (C5‐BTBP) was able to extract americium(III) selectively from nitric acid. In octanol/kerosene the distribution ratios suggest that stripping will be possible. C5‐BTBP has unusual properties and potentially offers a means of separating metals, which otherwise are difficult separate. For example potential separate palladium(II) mixture containing rhodium(III) ruthenium(II) nitrosyl. addition, remove traces cadmium effluent or solutions other metals...
Selected soft N-donor ligands are highly effective extractants for the separation of trivalent actinides (An(III)) from lanthanides (Ln(III)) in partitioning and transmutation (P&T) strategy. Comparative structural investigations using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (EXAFS) on An(III) Ln(III) complexed with tris[(2-pyrazinyl)methyl]amine (TPZA) 2,6-di(5,6-dipropyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine (BTP) performed order to evaluate if ligand extraction performance is reflected coordination structure...
Abstract 2,6‐Di(5,6‐dipropyl‐1,2,4‐triazin‐3‐yl)pyridine (BTP) extracts trivalent actinides from nitric acid with high separation factors over the lanthanides. The kinetics of americium(III) extraction and back this system was studied in a constant‐interface stirred cell. rate found to be independent stirring speed. This means that mass transfer is limited by slow chemical complexation reaction ("chemical regime"). increase linearly BTP concentration. Nitric concentration had strong...
The complexes of trivalent actinide curium (Cm(III)) with di(chlorophenyl)dithiophosphinic acid ((ClPh)2PSSH) and three different neutral complexing agents as synergists in tert-butylbenzene are studied by EXAFS time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy (TRLFS). results compared those from the corresponding europium (Eu(III)) complexes. aim these investigations is to understand chemical interactions responsible for high selectivity synergistic systems (ClPh)2PSSH tri-n-octylphosphine...
Studies were made on the kinetics of lanthanide(III)/actinide(III) co-extraction with N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-dibutyltetradecylmalonic diamide (DMDBTDMA), which is an extraction system for partitioning high level liquid nuclear waste (HLLW). Extraction rates measured in a stirred cell. A linear relationship between stirring rate and fluxes was found both lanthanides americium. This indicates that mass transfer controlled by diffusion. Two sets observed within lanthanide series. The La(III),...
Regarding the difficult selective extraction of trivalent actinides over fission lanthanides from acidic media, we performed several separation tests in hollow fiber modules. Using a synergistic mixture bis(chlorophenyl)dithiophosphinic acid and tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide tert-butyl benzene, on extraction, lanthanide scrubbing, stripping were performed. Up to 99.99% americium could be extracted 0.5 kmol/m3 nitric acid, with approximately one third being co-extracted. Mass transfer...
Summary Miniature hollow fibre modules were fabricated and used as phase contactors for chemical liquid–liquid extraction. They tested americium(III) selective extraction, using three different extractants of relevance to the European Partitioning Transmutation strategy. Americium could be removed from feed >99.9% in all cases. Only few ten millilitres phases consumed running a test. This is major advantage miniature over commercially available which have been previously.
This contribution concerns chemical mass transfer between liquid phases with the main question directed to action of adsorbed amphiphilic layers at interface. As model system, complexation zinc ions (aqueous phase) dithizone (toluene was selected, measured stirred cell technique. allows discrimination flow-dependent transport processes from flow-independent interfacial reactions as rate-controlling alternatives. In absence surfactants (the so-called base system) rate is shown be limited by...
