본 연구에서는 Hack의 이론과 형상계수를 적용하여 소하천 유역의 지형학적 특성을 파악하였다. 이를 위해 유역면적과 유로연장을 군집분석을 통해 분류하고 이론에 근거하여 규모별 거동특성 지수를 산정하였다. 아울러 유역형상을 파악하고, 형상계수가 설계홍수량 산정시 국내에서 주로 적용하고 있는 경험식과의 관계성을 검토하였다. 그 결과 h와 국내의 소하천은 정사각형 유역형상에 가까운 직선하천임을 확인하였다. 소하천의 홍수량 산정을 위한 경험식을 검토한 집중시간과 저류상수와 관계는 1.37의 관계를 갖으며, Russel 경험식 <TEX>${\alpha}$</TEX>는 0.73으로 분석되었다. 이는 저류상수의 경우 유역이 중 대규모 유역과 비해 상대적으로 작게 산정됨을 의미한다. 향후 유역에 대한 강우-유출 해석 및 추가적 유역특성분석이 수행된다면 국내 적합한 개발이 가능할 거라 판단된다.
