The discovery of biomarkers able to predict biological age individuals is a crucial goal in aging research. Recently, researchers' attention has turn toward epigenetic markers aging. Using the Illumina Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChip on whole blood DNA from small cohort 64 subjects different ages, we identified 3 regions, CpG islands ELOVL2, FHL2, and PENK genes, whose methylation level strongly correlates with age. These results were confirmed by Sequenom's EpiTYPER assay larger 501 9...

The outcome of 24 months cabergoline treatment on prolactin (PRL) normalization, tumor shrinkage, restoration pituitary function, and semen alterations was prospectively investigated in 41 men with macro- (age 17–70 yr) 10 microprolactinoma 18–53 yr). Fifty-one age-matched served as controls for analysis. At study entry, the patients macroprolactinoma, 17 (41.4%) had visual field defects, 14 (34.1%) headache, eight (19.5%) galactorrhea, 22 (53.6%) hypopituitarism apart from hypogonadism, 30...

Mitochondrial stress elicits the production of response molecules indicated as mitokines, including fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), differentiation 15 (GDF15), and humanin (HN). Many diseases are characterized by progressive mitochondrial dysfunction with alterations mitokine secretion. It is still controversial whether healthy aging extreme longevity accompanied an altered mitokines. We analyzed FGF21, HN, GDF15 plasma levels in 693 subjects aged from to 113 years, association these...

The COVID-19 pandemic caused an increased mortality in nursing homes due to its quick spread and the age-related high lethality. We observed a two-month of 40%, compared 6.4% previous year. This increase was seen both positive (43%) negative (24%) residents, but 8 patients among those testing on swab, tested serological tests. Increased associated with male gender, older age, no vitamin D supplementation worse "activities daily living (ADL)" scores, such as Barthel index, Tinetti scale...

We designed a prospective multicenter randomized controlled study in three long-term weaning units (LWU) to evaluate which protocol, inspiratory pressure support ventilation (PSV) or spontaneous breathing trials (SB), is more effective patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) requiring mechanical for than 15 d. Fifty-two of 75 patients, failing an initial T-piece trial at admission, were randomly assigned PSV SB (26 both groups). No significant difference was found success...

The overall prevalence was higher both (86% vs. 24%; P < 0.0001) (73% 9%; than controls. Abstract Epigenetic remodeling is one of the major features aging process. We recently demonstrated that DNA methylation ELOVL2 and FHL2 CpG islands highly correlated with age in whole blood. Here we investigated several aspects age-associated hypermethylation FHL2. showed significantly different primary dermal fibroblast cultures from donors ages. Using epigenomic data public resources, most tissues show age. Interestingly, was not found very low replication rate. associated vitro cell...
