Thymectomy plays an important role in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG). This study aimed to explore predictors of postoperative myasthenic crisis (POMC) after thymectomy and define a predictive score respiratory failure. The clinical data 177 MG undergoing from January 1995 December 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. The following factors analysed relation the occurrence crisis: gender, age, body mass index (BMI), anti-acetylcholine receptor-antibody level, bulbar symptoms,...

The prognostic role of the number resected and metastatic lymph nodes in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still being debated. aim this study was to evaluate impact lymphadenectomy addition already validated variables NSCLC survival. From January 2002 December 2012, data on 4858 patients with undergoing anatomical resection hilomediastinal 6 institutions were analysed retrospectively. Established factors ratio between (NR) correlated overall survival (OS) disease-free (DFS) using...

To address the question of how much chest-wall (CW) resections and prosthetic reconstructions influence functional outcome. We retrospectively reviewed 175 patients who underwent surgery for CW tumors. The clinical, histological, surgical, oncological, factors were analyzed. We performed: 75 rib resections; 20 sternal 15 combined 27 lung resections. In 39 cases (22.2%) was stabilized with non-rigid prosthesis (Vicryl-mesh: 8 patients; Goretex-mesh: 31 patients). Postoperative complications...

BackgroundHigher blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) have been associated with shorter survival in patients cardiovascular, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer. We investigated the impact baseline postoperative CRP on operable lung cancer (LC).Patients methodsCRP values at (CRP0) 3 days after surgery (CRP3) were measured a consecutive series 1750 LC who underwent complete resection between 2003 2015. Patients classified as having 0 (N = 593), 1 658) or 2 553) risk factors:...

Surgical resection of pulmonary metastases has been associated with increased survival at 5 years for osteosarcoma, but limited information is available on long-term outcome, role repeated metastasectomies, and surgical sequelae in a pediatric population. We analyzed consecutive series children, adolescents, young adults (AYA) treated by lung metastasectomies during period >40 to estimate the clinical benefit potential cure rate salvage surgery. All patients who underwent metastasectomy...

The potential benefit of surgery for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), especially concerning pleurectomy/decortication (P/D), is unclear from the literature. aim this study was to evaluate outcome after multimodality treatment MPM involving different types P/D and analyse prognostic factors. We reviewed 314 patients affected by who were operated on in 11 Italian centres 1 January 2007 October 2014.The characteristics population male/female ratio: 3.7/1, median age at operation 67.8 years....

Benign chest wall tumours are very uncommon and lipomas rarely reported in literature. We report herein a case of 68-year old man who developed giant, symptomless mass the wall. A computed tomography scan evidenced solid neoplasm measuring 27 cm its major axis. radical excision was performed histology consistent with lipoma. To our knowledge, this is first reporting giant lipoma thirty-year history.

Abstract OBJECTIVES Overlapping survival curves for N1b (multiple N1 stations), N2a2 (single N2 station + involvement) and N2a1 (skip metastasis) limit the current tumour–node–metastasis (TNM) node (N) subclassification involvement. We validated externally proposed subclassification. METHODS Clinical records from a multicentric database comprising 1036 patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma (ADC) or squamous cell carcinoma N1/N2 involvement who underwent, January 2002 to December 2014,...

The efficacy of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for evaluating mediastinal adenopathy in lung cancer is nowadays proven. However, its accuracy detection malignant pleural effusion per se has not been yet investigated. Herein we report our experience with EUS detecting during the staging procedure non-small cell (NSCLC) patients.Between January 2009 and December 2011, performed ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) on 92 selected NSCLC patients to evaluate T N factors acquire bioptic...

Lung carcinoids (LCs) are staged using the non-small-cell lung cancer tumour/node/metastasis staging system; possibility of an LC-specific system is still being debated. The goal our study was to construct a composite prognostic score for LC.From January 2002 December 2014, data from 293 patients who underwent surgical treatment LC in 7 research institutes were retrospectively analysed. A panel established factors addition lymph node metastasis patterns (single/multiple N1-N2 station, skip...
