The growing demand for natural products benefits the development of bioprocesses to obtain value-added compounds using residues such as sweet whey, which is rich in lactose. yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus can ferment whey 2-phenylethanol (2-PhEtOH), a superior alcohol with rose aroma. Such fermentation only requires addition L-phenylalanine (precursor) and (NH4)2SO4 (salt). Therefore, it was sought improve conditions produce 2-PhEtOH, which, turn, would achieve maximum decrease Chemical...
The objective of this study was to evaluate how high-energy milling affects the structural, thermal, and morphological properties brewer’s spent grain fibers over time. researchers determined chemical composition samples using TAPPI techniques, particle size analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD). displayed distinct morphologies sizes depending on treatment duration. sample...
The mixtures of blue cornmeal and orange bagasse were processed in a single screw laboratory extruder. We used an experimental design, central composite rotatable, where the factors as follows: extruder die temperature (153–187°C), feed moisture (146.4–213.6 g/kg), concentration (32.7–167.3 g/kg). results analyzed by surface methodology response to evaluate effect these variables on expansion index, bulk density, penetration force, specific mechanical energy, water absorption, solubility...
Denitrification with p-cresol as the electron source was studied in presence of three quinones at different molar concentrations (0–2 mM): menadione (MEN), alizarine (ALZ) and anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS). Results showed that denitrifying yields were not altered (0.9), but substrates' consumption efficiency mainly affected when adding MEN. In ALZ MEN, specific rates decreased 40% for 90% nitrate. The sludge previously exposed to submitted recovering studies using acetate p-cresol....
The scaling of Raceway bioreactors was studied by geometric and mechanical similarity, with an order magnitude 1:10. hydrodynamic parameters involved (flow velocity, stress or shear stress, dimensionless numbers Re, Fr, Euler Power) at different stirring speeds (30, 35, 40, 45 rpm) were determined. study, carried out using low-density particle imaging velocimetry (PIV), showed that the speed liquid medium remains above 30 cm/s from rpm, which ensures turbulence in system. flow velocity...
The self-sustaining nature of renewable energies makes it necessary to continuously search for substrates that satisfy a growing interest in the production biofuels, taking care areas such as food security. In this work we optimized hydrolysis process Opuntia ficus-indica cladodes using acid diluted and surface response methodology. nopal is secondary crop widely distributed arid semi-arid zones recently investigated its potential biofuel industry given versatility crop. result optimization...
Hydrolysis of corn leaf utilizing two treatment sequences was carried out in this study. The first chemical and involved subjecting the to an alkaline pre-treatment then a smooth acid hydrolysis. The second consisted biological delignification using strain Trametes sp.44 H88, followed by enzymatic hydrolysis extract produced Trichoderma sp.H88.The ligninolytic H88 used detoxify hydrolyzate. The results indicate that with is more favorable improves subsequent hydrolysis, regardless whether or...
This review evaluates the trajectory and sustainability of global Mexican aquaculture industry. Globally, sector is experiencing rapid growth, catalyzed by evolving consumption patterns technological advancements. Notwithstanding benefits, environmental concerns necessitate an urgent shift towards sustainable practices. The focus then narrows to Mexico's aquaculture, tracing its history from late 19th century. With emphasis on species diversification, country's demonstrates...
Abstract Whey, the main byproduct in cheese manufacturing, has a high organic content, predominantly due to its lactose amount (45-60 g/L). There are three types of residues coming from production: sweet whey (SW), acid (AW), and ricotta (RW). Each one presents physicochemical particularities that pose challenges when handled by small medium enterprises, their costly treatment. An alternative address this issue is fermentation such substrates obtain value-added products. The goal research...
The transmembrane nitrate reductase (Nar) is the first enzyme in dissimilatory alternate anaerobic respiratory chain denitrifying bacteria. To date, there has been no real-time method to determine its specific activity embedded native membrane; here, we describe such a new method, which useful with inside-out membranes of Paracoccus denitrificans and other This takes advantage coupling endogenous NADH dehydrogenase or Complex I reduction by Nar through quinone pool inner P. denitrificans....
The effect of three electric potentials (EP) (+104, −187 and −279 mV) applied to the denitrifying process was explored. It observed that sludge able support oxidation p-cresol with application EP in absence nitrate, but it unable drive denitrification without an organic electron donor. On denitrification, uncoupled oxidative from reductive process, favoring over production N2. Additionally, biochemical level effects were observed. At +104 mV potentials, nitrate nitrite consumption affected...
Microalgae and cyanobacteria are of great interest for various industries due to the products that can be obtained from them. This makes study cultivation systems these microorganisms increasing. Such is case Raceway bioreactors, which have been analyzed by simulations mixing agitation. Mixing most important factor in growth photosynthetic microorganisms. In present work, experimental evidence hydrodynamic parameters such as; Re, Fr, NQ, NP EP flow paths were also within a bioreactor. It was...
