The magnetostriction (/spl lambda//sub 100/) of b.c.c. Fe is increased over 10-fold at room temperature by the substitution /spl sim/20% gallium for Fe. Fe/sub 1-x/Ga/sub x/ alloys with x between 0.19 and 0.214 that are quenched from 800/spl deg/C exhibit magnetostrictions sim/25% higher than those furnace-cooled 10/spl deg//min. We propose this great increase above in Fe-Ga not due to conventional magnetoelastic effects but substitutive presence asymmetrically shaped clusters Ga atoms. As...

We analyze the coercivity, remanence, and initial magnetization of a single-domain, single-component amorphous material. assume uniform ferromagnetic exchange concentrate on effect single-ion anisotropy. find threshold anisotropy below which coercivity is zero. At large anisotropy, proportional to energy. Exchange pulling increases remanence materials. suggest that between crystallites may also be operative in small-grain metallic polycrystals.

Iron-gallium alloys ${\mathrm{Fe}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ga}}_{x}$ exhibit an exceptional increase in magnetostriction with gallium content. We present small-angle neutron scattering investigations on a ${\mathrm{Fe}}_{0.81}{\mathrm{Ga}}_{0.19}$ single crystal. uncover heterogeneities average spacing of 15 nm and magnetizations distinct from the matrix. The muon anomalous magnetic moment has been measured in a new experiment at Brookhaven. Polarized muons were stored superferric ring, and the angular frequency difference, ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{a}$, between spin precession orbital frequencies was determined by measuring time distribution of high-energy decay positrons. ratio $R$ ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{a}$ to Larmor free protons, ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{p}$, storage-ring field measured. We find...

Abstract The inverse susceptibility—temperature curves of Mn x Hg 1— Te ( = 0.05, 0.11, 0.17, 0.235) showed a Curie‐Weiss behaviour at high temperatures and downward deviation low temperatures. paramagnetic Curie effective numbers magnetic carriers also deviated from linear dependence on values x. These results were explained in terms cluster model molecular field .

A model is presented which produces a magnetostrictively driven rhombohedral distortion (λ111) in cubic diamond‐like structures. No tetragonal magnetostrictive (λ100) allowed, consistent with the experimental observation, λ111≫λ100. From x‐ray and single crystal measurements we find ‖λ111/λ100‖≳600 for DyFe2. Rhombohedral distortions are examined ternary Tb1−xGexFe2, Tb1−xYxFe2 Tb1−xDyxFe2 systems by methods. The single‐ion nature of giant Tb magnetostriction TbFe2 verified.

Magnetization measurements have been made on four bulk samples (compositions x=.018, .118, .167 and .25) prepared by direct current rapid sputtering. Neutron diffraction show these to be amorphous. All are ferrimagnetic; however, the 17% sample is almost completely compensated at temperatures below 100K. With decreasing Tb‐content, Curie fall from a maximum of 405K for x=.25 value 245K x=.018. Anomalously large coercive fields time dependence magnetizations present low temperatures.

Much contemporary analysis has concluded that the recent financial crisis and bank failures were, among other things, result of a breakdown in corporate governance regimes market discipline. In this context, new regulations advocate such market‐based remedies as tighter investor monitoring greater control over executives' remuneration, order to safeguard stability. We argue approach largely ignores three very important aspects modern markets cannot be constrained through discipline: (i)...

Measurements of the magnetomechanical coupling constant, k, and ΔE effect have been made on Fe71Co9B20 glassy ribbons quenched by a centrifugal spinning method. An X-ray check showed no trace crystallinity. The maximum k were 0.81 more than 2.2, respectively, obtained after field anneal 20 kOe parallel to width ribbon at 384±5°C for 15 min. This relative change in modulus is largest known.

Absorption spectra with the ribbon plane tilted several angles respect to direction of γ rays, an external ranging from 0 10 Oe. Intensity ratios analyzed obtain magnetization as function field. A large zero-field spread was deduced and excess scatter near anisotropy observed.
