Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing K. (KPC-Kp) bloodstream infections are associated with high mortality. We studied clinical KPC-Kp isolates to investigate mechanisms of resistance complement, a key host defense against infection.
Thalassaemia is the most frequent hereditary disorder in Pakistan, with an estimated 8-10 million carriers. This single-centre study reported frequency of haemoglobinopathies among 504 consecutive cases visiting Islamabad Diagnostic Centre for haemoglobin electrophoresis from July 2010 to February 2011.Haemoglobin was performed on cellulose acetate membrane, followed by staining and densitometric scanning bands.A total 143 (28.4%) subjects had haemoglobinopathies. The predominant thalassaemia...
Hyperglycemia during sepsis is associated with increased organ dysfunction and higher mortality. The role of the host immune response in development hyperglycemia remains unclear. We performed a retrospective analysis critically ill adult septic patients requiring mechanical ventilation (n = 153) to study relationship between ten markers injury measured on first day ICU admission (baseline). determined associations each biomarker and: (1) glucose, insulin, c-peptide levels at time collection...
