Abstract This study analyses long‐term changes in drought indices (Standardised Precipitation Index—SPI, Standardised Precipitation–Evapotranspiration Index—SPEI) at 1 and 3 months scales 182 stations 11 central eastern European countries during 1949–2018. For comparative purposes, the necessary atmospheric evaporative demand (AED) to obtain SPEI was calculated using two methods, Hargreaves‐Samani (SPEIH) Penman‐Monteith (SPEIP). The results show some relevant tendencies indices....
Abstract The purpose of this research is to identify changes in the spatiotemporal distribution and severity meteorological droughts Ukraine between 1946 2020. In order determine role precipitation atmospheric evaporative demand on drought severity, two indices were applied for comparative analysis: standardized index (SPI) evaporation (SPEI). Both calculated 3‐ 12‐month timescales. gridded dataset monthly air temperature with high spatial resolution (0.1° × 0.1°), developed Ukrainian...
The summer of 2022 was very dry across Missouri and the surrounding regions including much Great Lakes, Midwest, southern plains USA. A comparison this to 2012 relatively wet summers 2018 2021 carried out using National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Atmospheric Research reanalysis, Climate Prediction Center teleconnection indexes, blocking archive at University Missouri. like that which characterized by a strong 500 hPa height anomaly centered over western US as well little...
The study examines spatiotemporal distribution of fire weather conditions during the seasons 1990–2020 in mixed forests areas territory Belarus and Ukraine using monthly mean Fire Weather Index (FWI) averaged for each administrative area region. It was revealed that lowest FWI values were observed northern northwestern regions Belarus, highest southeast. On Ukraine, increase toward east regions. In seasonal distribution, increases from March to May middle summer index reaches a maximum all...
The features of regional atmosphere circulation, which accompanied simultaneously by two high impact hydrometeorological phenomena such as droughts and dry winds in the Black Sea Steppe zone Ukraine were considered. Dry wind a complex phenomenon is widespread throughout during warm season year. often accompany drought, but they appear peripheral processes contrast to droughts, usually are formed central parts anticyclones. number days with at stations varies average from 10-20 cases 40-50...
The character of the atmospheric general circulation during summer-season droughts over Eastern Europe/Western Russia and North America late twentieth early twenty first century is examined here. A criterion to examine drought events that encompassed summer season (an important part growing season) was used determine which years were driest, using precipitation, evaporation, areal coverage. relationship between atmosphere, Dzerzeevsky weather climatic classification scheme, blocking,...
Monthly precipitation and the 3-month Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) were used to reveal patterns of rainfall severe drought frequency over East European Plain in period 1953–2011 opposite phases quasibiennial oscillation (QBO). Differences May June westward eastward QBO are explained by circulation variations. The analysis indicates less frequent events Ukraine at center part Russia phase due intensification storm track Plain. weather conditions years more favorable for yield....
In the Mediterranean and occasionally in Black Sea, low-pressure systems with character of both mid-latitude tropical cyclones can form. These hybrid storms are called subtropical storms, depressions, medistorms/medicanes, or tropical-like (TLC). A strong system given name Falchion developed northern part Sea during 11–20 August 2021. This storm was blamed for damage more than 30 casualties nations bordering region. At peak intensity, this a as depression. moved northeast, reaching intensity...
An overview of the meteorological and synoptic conditions for formation severe drought which occurred in 2019–2020 southwest Ukraine showed that combination several adverse factors influenced evolution over a long period time. Analysis two types indices anomalies tropospheric pressure fields precipitation deficit began before occurrence drought, due to repetition high region, through intensity increased gradually.
In recent decades in the world, and Republic of Belarus particular, question impact weather conditions on development sectors economy life population has become acute. The sudden changes can lead to adverse dangerous phenomena that cause significant damage country’s economy. This paper examines frequency cyclones different trajectories moved through territory during period 1995–2015. It is identified southern western caused events over Belarus. interannual seasonal causing was analyzed....
Objectives. The projected spatiotemporal distribution of precipitation in different regions Ukraine under the climate scenario RCP8.5 for period 2020-2050 was defined.Methods.The data regional modeling CORDEX project have been used construction time series and detection trends precipitation.Future adverse meteorological phenomena associated with are estimated using extreme indices.
Abstract The atmospheric general circulation character during summer droughts over Eastern Europe / Western Russia and North America from 1970 – 2020 is examined here. A criterion to examine drought events encompassed the season was used determine which years were driest using precipitation, evaporation, areal coverage. relationship between Dzerzeevsky climatic classification scheme, blocking, teleconnections, information entropy are study dynamics. Introduction. Almost every year, the territory of Ukraine is affected by drought different intensity and duration, what a favorable condition for wildfires. In forest areas country arose about 106.8 thousand fires with total area 139.2 hectares during 1990-2017. An analysis long-term dynamics shows that wildfires in are sustainable phenomenon. 2020, under severe conditions, 209 occurred, most significant them were Chernobyl zone Lugansk region. Formulation problem. There still no universally...
Spatiotemporal distribution of the soil moisture content 0–10 cm underground has been assessed across aroclimatic zones Ukraine for period 2000–2019. Calculated Soil Moisture Anomaly Index (SMAI) was used to characterize degree saturation soil, comparing normal conditions. The North Atlantic Oscillation index (NAO) and European Continental Blocking (ECBI) were estimation influence atmospheric circulation on in different seasons. clear annual course is observed all agroclimatic Ukraine, when...
During the year, territory of Ukraine is under influence various synoptic processes, which have a certain evolution in surface conditions region and sometimes lead to formation unfavorable dangerous weather conditions. The classification processes makes it possible create set daily situations taking into account characteristics region, both for their use forecasting studying dynamics regional climate change. In this study, modified version Jenkinson Collison method used classify on Ukraine,...
The paper describes the features of spatiotemporal distribution drought at long-time periods in Transcarpathian region under projected temperature and precipitation regime period 2020-2050. Analysis moisture conditions was produced using CORDEX climate modeling data for scenarios RCP4.5 RCP8.5. It is shown that an increase mean annual air stations will occur mainly due to increasing winter temperatures both scenarios. average sum insignificantly, but be observed opposite trends summer...
