The shape of the secondary sexual characters is, traditionally, used to discriminate marine shrimps at species level. However, qualitative evaluation structures that are morphologically variable in taxonomy can favor misunderstandings and misidentifications. These possibilities taxonomic inaccuracies especially alarming when there is a need evaluate invasion introduced species. present study geometric morphometric analyses identify differences cephalothorax would help native non-native...

Potimirim potimirim (Müller, 1881), a species of coastal freshwater shrimp, is recorded for the first time from state Rio Grande do Norte, northeastern Brazil, where it was collected in small tributary Potengi River. This record extends distribution this about 220 km north along Brazilian coast. New records, such as this, reinforce need greater research efforts ecosystems Brazil to provide better understand region’s biodiversity and establish parameters conservation actions.

The aim of this scientific note was to evaluate the influence coastal current on estimation relative abundance indices for small-scale marine shrimp trawling indicate best index be used stock assessment and conservation. Georeferenced experimental trawls were carried out with standardized equipment capture time coast Rio Grande do Norte, northeastern Brazil. Drags followed convergent divergent orientations in relation flow local current. results showed that direction directly influences...

This study constitutes the most comprehensive effort ever done to assess faunal diversity of Macrobrachium genus within two ecoregions that encompass part northeastern Brazil: Northeastern Caatinga & Coastal Drainages, and São Francisco (Lower-middle Lower portions). Through sampling in several their hydrographic basins, bibliographic research, consulting scientific collections, our results reveal occurrence five species along these ecoregions: acanthurus, M. amazonicum, carcinus,...
