Using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, for a monolayer of transition metal dichalcogenide H-NbS
Two ultimately thin vanadium-rich 2D materials based on VS2 are created via molecular beam epitaxy and investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The controlled synthesis of stoichiometric single-layer or either the two is achieved by varying sample coverage sulfur pressure during annealing. Through annealing small islands without S pressure, S-vacancies spontaneously order in 1D arrays, giving rise to...
Abstract When a single electron is confined to an impurity state in metal, many-body resonance emerges at the Fermi energy if bath screens impurity’s magnetic moment. This Kondo effect, originally introduced explain abnormal resistivity behaviour bulk alloys, and it has been realized many quantum systems over past decades, ranging from heavy-fermion lattices down adsorbed atoms. Here we describe system that allows us experimentally resolve spectral function consisting of levels large...
SUMMARY A new method was developed for sufficient normobaric oxygenation of kidneys during storage in solutions intracellular ionic composition. Sufficiency by “retrograde oxygen persufflation” controlled estimation cellular metabolic state. In dogs functional recovery the kidney tested following autotransplantation after 24 hr hypothermic persufflation storage, with or without a preceding period 30 min normothermic ischemia, and compared simple Collins' solution continuous perfusion albumin...
A simple method for orthotopic liver transplantation in the rat is described detail. cuff technique was applied to all anastomoses of supra- and infrahepatic venae cavae portal vein. It simplified shortened implantation graft as well eliminating need microvascular suture technique. In last series 20 transplants, survival rate 85% after 1 week 55% 2 months with normal hepatocellular function.
Two-dimensional (2D) chromium-sulfides are synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy using graphene as a substrate. Structure characterization employing scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction indicates that there two 2D phases, Cr$_2$S$_3$-2D Cr$_{2\frac{2}{3}}$S$_4$-2D, which have not been reported before. Cr$_{2\frac{2}{3}}$S$_4$-2D is related to bulk Cr$_5$S$_6$, but thinner than unit cell. For Cr$_2$S$_3$-2D, an even material, no counterpart exists. Both materials...
In clinical studies on cell therapy for acute myocardial infarction (MI), cells are usually applied by intracoronary infusion with balloon (IC/B). To test the utility of occlusion, mononuclear bone marrow (MNC) retention after without (IC/noB) was compared IC/B and intramyocardial (IM) injection.Four hours LAD ligation in male pigs, reperfusion allowed (confirmed coronary angiography). Five days later, 1 x 10(8) autologous (111)Indium-labelled MNC were injected IC/noB (n = 4), or IM 4). At h...
Vacancies in semiconducting 2D transition metal dichalcogenides enable studies of quantum phenomena at the nanoscale, such as single photon emission or Jahn-Teller distortions. Here, authors show that a scanning tunneling microscope can local creation vacancies well vacancy dimers single-layer MoS${}_{2}$. Charging through gating leads to two distinct types distortions, quantitative agreement with $a\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}b$...
Fluid delivery from four types of commercially available 50‐ml syringes was measured using an electronic balance at infusion rate 1 ml.h −1 . Retrograde aspiration volume and zero‐drug time were recorded after lowering the syringe pump by 50 cm. Syringe compliance calculated bolus released occlusion 100 mmHg. Zero‐drug times differed significantly between syringes, ranging [mean (SD)] 3.26 (0.40) min to 6.38 (0.56) ( F = 55.5, d.f. 3/20, p < 0.0001). correlated well with (Pearson r 2...
Abstract Much effort has been made to modify the properties of transition metal dichalcogenide layers via their environment as a route new functionalization. However, it remains challenge induce large electronic changes without chemically altering layer or compromising its two-dimensionality. Here, non-invasive technique is used shift chemical potential monolayer MoS 2 through p- and n-type doping graphene (Gr), which well-decoupled 2D substrate. With intercalation oxygen (O) under Gr,...
Background: Translocation of a free autologous graft consisting retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), Bruch’s membrane, choriocapillaris and choroid in patients with exudative age-related macular degeneration is currently being evaluated clinical practice. Angiographic studies these suggest that their grafts become revascularised. Aim: To investigate the histological evidence revascularisation porcine model. Methods: In 11 pigs (11 eyes), an RPE–choroid was translocated from mid-periphery to...
A single-crystal sheet of graphene is synthesized on the low-symmetry substrate Ir(110) by thermal decomposition C$_2$H$_4$ at 1500 K. Using scanning tunneling microscopy, low-energy electron diffraction, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and ab initio density functional theory structure electronic properties adsorbed its moir\'e with are uncovered. The layer forms a wave pattern nm length corresponding modulation properties. This demonstrated to enable templated adsorption aromatic...
Abstract Background The use of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for liver tumours is limited by the proximity large bile ducts to targeted lesion. aim this randomized study was evaluate intraductal cooling as a mean protecting during RFA. Methods Twelve pigs underwent RFA adjacent right duct. After placement an catheter and probe, were or no cooling. Intraductal temperature measured in all animals. assessed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cholangiography 1 28 days after procedure. Results...
The occupied electron energy bands of monolayer ${\mathrm{MoS}}_{2}$ are composed from out-of-plane $d$ orbitals at the Brillouin zone (BZ) center and in-plane BZ corner. If a dopant would interact in an orbital selective manner with bands, it could provide tuning knob to modulate according wave vector. Here we directly show by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) that Fe doping epitaxial is selective. That is, causes larger upshift valence band compared optical properties...
