Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A®) has been widely used in many clinical disorders including migraine, cervical dystonia, etc. The use of BTX-A neuropathic pain, however, is uncommon, and the application anti-nociceptive effect botulinum emerging. Here we report a case an 80-year-old man who suffered from severe pain post-herpetic neuralgia which was refractory to usual therapies. However, this dramatically relieved by multiple injection relief lasted 52 days.
In Brief We report a case of permanent paraplegia in an 81-yr-old patient who had thoracic epidural catheterization performed under general anesthesia for abdominal surgery. The needle was introduced at the T9-10 interspace, and 3 passes were made to locate space with loss-of-resistance-to-air technique. During postoperative pump infusion, unaware progressive motor sensory impairment. Sensory loss below T11 no movement either lower extremity identified 8 h after Magnetic resonance imaging...
Multidrug resistance (MDR) is a multifactorial issue in cancer treatment. Drug efflux transporters, particularly P-glycoprotein (P-gp), are major contributors to such resistance. In the present study, we evaluated P-gp-inhibiting and MDR-reversing effects of two compounds, namely rhein, an anthraquinone, diacerein, acetylated prodrug rhein. ABCB1/Flp-In-293 was used as model for investigating related molecular mechanisms, multi-drug-resistant cell line KB/VIN platform evaluating reversal...
The ultrasonic cardiac output monitor (USCOM) is a new Doppler device for noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring. aim of this prospective nonrandomized study was to test the feasibility, perioperative reliability, and clinical applicability using USCOM as an alternative pulmonary artery catheterization in recipients living donor liver transplantation. Thirteen patients scheduled receive transplants were initially recruited. Three subsequently excluded prior commencement surgery because technical...
A high fat diet is associated with risk of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, whether hyperlipidemia BPH remains unclear. This population-based cohort study elucidated an increased BPH.We used a new-exposure design and analyzed data retrieved from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database between January 1, 2000 December 31, 2013. The men newly diagnosed age- index-date-matched (1:3) nonhyperlipidemia were tracked for incidence during 1- to 14-year follow-up. Diagnosis using...
Abstract Vasculitic peripheral neuropathy ( VPN ) arises from an inflammatory obstruction in the blood vessels supplying nerves and subsequent ischaemic insults, which exhibits clinical features of neuropathic pain impaired nerve function. induced by ischaemia–reperfusion IR has been reported to involve nuclear factor‐κB NF ‐κB)‐mediated neuroinflammation. Recent studies have suggested that endoplasmic reticulum ER stress implicated development neuropathies. Resveratrol possesses a potent...
Objectives/Hypothesis This study aimed to assess the role of capnography in objectively evaluating breathing routes during drug‐induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) and further elucidate relationship between route, obstructive apnea (OSA) severity, DISE findings. Study Design Prospective observational study. Methods Nighty‐five patients with established OSA were recruited for this from May 2017 2019. was performed operating room. Sedation maintained propofol using a target‐controlled infusion...
Abstract Rationale: Red man syndrome (RMS) is the most common allergic reaction to vancomycin. It generally occurs during rapid infusion of vancomycin; only few cases have been reported as results local vancomycin administration. We hereby report a rare case where RMS developed after insertion vancomycin-loaded bone cement in primary total knee replacement (TKR). Patient concerns: A 74-year-old woman was admitted for left TKR due severe osteoarthritis. Erythematous changes over face, trunk,...
The aim of this study was to determine the value drug-induced sleep ultrasonography (DISU) for evaluating tongue base thickness (TBT) from awake state sleep, further understand impact dynamic changes in TBT obstructive apnoea (OSA) patients. From May 2017 2018, thirty patients with OSA were prospectively recruited. Sleep induced propofol via use a target-controlled infusion (TCI) system. depth sedation monitored by bispectral (BIS) index BIS levels ranging 50 70. change recorded. correlation...
Post-caesarean section analgesia is important physiologically and psychologically for both mothers infants. Patient-controlled a well-established method of administering opioids postoperative pain. However, to date, no study has systematically investigated the effects administered through intravenous patient-controlled (IVPCA) or epidural (PCEA) in parturients who have undergone caesarean section.
Abstract Objective To elucidate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation in alleviating pain as well its effects on functional outcomes, quality life and physical performance knee osteoarthritis patients. Design Prospective observational study. Setting Patients were recruited within one community hospital. Subjects with osteoarthritis. Methods The subjects underwent nerves after showing a positive response to diagnostic block. Outcome assessments...
Management of chronic cluster headache (CCH) remains a challenging endeavor, and the optimal surgical approach for medically refractory CCH controversial. To conduct preliminary evaluation efficacy safety vidian neurectomy (VN) in patients with CCH.Between March 2013 December 2015, 9 patients, all whom had failed to respond conservative therapy, underwent VN precise nerve cut maximal preservation sphenopalatine ganglion. Data included demographic variables, onset duration, mean attack...
