Two new methods for the formation of Si−C monolayers from reactions with Si(111)−H are reported. Besides photochemical method previously reported by Chidsey, Lewis acid-catalyzed hydrosilylation alkenes and direct reaction alkylmagnesium bromide produce a surface similar chemical composition. These processes demonstrated compared using C10 precursor. The surfaces chemically stable can be stored several weeks without measurable deterioration. availability variety synthetic approaches leading...
This paper describes the chemical modification of high surface area, photoluminescent porous silicon (PSi) by reaction at a moderately elevated temperature (<115 °C) with alkenes (RCHCH2) and aldehydes (RCHO) to give organic monolayers covalently bonded through Si−C Si−O−C linkages, respectively. The are characterized using diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT), transmission FTIR, Raman, X-ray photoelectron, Auger spectroscopies. depth profiling results consistent...
Abstract Results are reported from a pilot study under the Consultative Committee for Amount of Substance (CCQM) to compare measurements and resolve any relevant measurement issues in amount thermal oxide on (100) (111) orientation silicon wafer substrates thickness range 1.5–8 nm. As result invitation participate this activity, 45 sets have been made different laboratories using 10 analytical methods: medium—energy ion scattering spectrometry (MEIS), nuclear reaction analysis (NRA), RBS,...
The effect of immersion time on the ordering properties self-assembled docosanethiolate (C22) monolayers has been studied by reflection/absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS). Starting with a chemically cleaned polycrystalline gold surface, we have found that an 45 s in micromolar thiol solutions is sufficient to produce ordered "monolayer" films. These films RAIR spectral features (peak position, line width, and integrated intensity) similar those obtained much longer times. Decreasing...
This paper describes a new strategy for fabricating continuous gold films based on the self-assembly of colloid monolayer poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)-modified glass slide, followed by electroless plating. Hydroxylamine-mediated reduction was proven as an excellent route to enlargement immobilized nanoparticles polymer-coated substrates in comparison formaldehyde-mediated reduction. Au colloidal surface-catalyzed Au3+ hydroxylamine exhibited very fast kinetics monitored and...
Platinum-ruthenium nanoparticles stabilized within a conductive polymer matrix are prepared using microwave heating. Polypyrrole di(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate, or PPyDEHS, has been chosen for its known electrical conductivity, thermal stability, and solubility in polar organic solvents. A scalable quick two-step process is proposed to fabricate alloyed dispersed PPyDEHS. First mixture of PPyDEHS metallic precursors heated under reflux conditions. Then the extracted by centrifugation....
Ceramic–nano-metallic composite coatings of Al2O3–nano-Ni on an aluminum substrate (Al6061) were obtained using electrophoretic deposition (EPD). Three with different ratios nano-Ni, i.e., 25, 50, and 75%, obtained. The phase composition the resulting was examined XRD; this confirmed existence alumina nickel in coatings. surface morphology microstructure analyzed SEM, while chemical content determined through energy-dispersive spectroscopy. hardness indenter results revealed a high 420 HV...
In the present work, we have used reflection−absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) to investigate temperature behavior of n-alkanethiols adsorbed on gold substrates. A careful examination spectra (frequencies, integrated intensities, and line widths) reveals at least two different types thermally induced disorder as is increased. These observations are discussed in light other recent studies using complementary techniques. The overall picture that emerges an initial stage characterized by...
Abstract A simple procedure has been described for the fabrication of multi‐wall carbon nanotube (CNT) based electrochemical sensors. 3‐Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) induced solubilization CNTs allowed modification electrode surfaces. With glucose oxidase (GOx), a flavin (FAD) containing enzyme as model system, APTES was used solubilizing agent well an immobilization matrix GOx to construct mediatorless biosensor. Our biosensor able efficiently monitor direct electroactivity at surface....

Comparisons of emerging carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies with equivalent incumbent are necessary to support technology developers help policy-makers design appropriate long-term incentives mitigate climate change through the deployment CCU. In particular, early-stage CCU must prove their economic viability environmental reduction potential compared already-deployed technologies. These comparisons can be misleading, as typically experience a drastic increase in performance...
Layered materials composed of silver−alkanethiolate units are characterized and compared to self-assembled alkanethiolate monolayers thiolate-capped nanoparticles. A comprehensive infrared spectroscopy study is presented for having chain lengths varying from 7 18 carbon atoms (AgSC7 AgSC18). The high level definition in these spectra will make this a benchmark system comparisons other metal thiolate systems. An X-ray diffraction same used determine the tilt angle chains (12 ± 3°), which very...
Reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy at near grazing incidence is used to investigate the thermal stability of self-assembled monolayers alkyl thiols, HS–(CH2)n−1-R, adsorbed on polycrystalline metal surfaces. The spectral features C–H stretching region have been carefully analyzed in temperature range from 150 450 K. These are highly sensitive chain orientation and conformation. On gold, chains found gradually untilt but remain largely all-trans up about 350 Above this temperature, a...
Stable polymer coated platinum–ruthenium nanoparticles were prepared. The effects of several preparation parameters have been studied in view optimizing the particles' composition and structure characteristics. Solutions hexachloroplatinic acid ruthenium chloride ethylene glycol reduced at 173 °C presence poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) with rapid refluxing a commercial microwave system. These form stable colloidal solutions ethanol for months without any precipitation. Transmission electron...
