Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of perampanel in patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (SALS). Methods This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, phase 2 clinical study was conducted at 12 sites. Patients probable or definite ALS as defined by revised El Escorial criteria were enrolled. Sixty-six randomly assigned (1:1:1) to receive placebo, 4 mg perampanel, 8 daily for 48 weeks. Adverse events (AEs) recorded throughout trial period....
Children with Down syndrome (DS), who are likely to suffer from a large number of musculoskeletal problems, tend have unique pattern walking in clinical settings. Despite such apparent uniqueness, few studies empirically investigated gait development DS children, especially at an earlier age. We therefore conducted analysis young children prescribed insoles, explore how their patterns develop, using the parameters identified by Sutherland et al. as determinants maturity typical...
We herein report an 84-year-old woman with right middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis who presented persistent left hemichorea preceding infarction. She visited our hospital on day 9 after the onset. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed no acute angiography revealed MCA stenosis. Her persisted for 19 days and subsequently disappeared. On 21, she developed hemiplegia. Repeat MRI a infarction in putamen. can present hemichorea, even absence of Persistent may presage
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal motor neuron disease. Selective deficiency of edited adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 2 (ADAR2), key molecule in the acquisition Ca2+ resistance neurons, has been reported sporadic ALS (sALS) spinal neurons. Since ADAR2 activity positively regulated by prolyl isomerase Protein never mitosis gene A interacting-1 (Pin1), known phosphorylation-dependent peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase, we investigated Pin1 expression neurons sALS.Specimens...
Thymoma-associated multiorgan autoimmunity (TAMA) presents with skin symptoms similar to those of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), liver dysfunction, and enteritis, in the absence a history hematopoietic stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. TAMA is type paraneoplastic syndrome associated thymoma. Its etiology unclear but thought be result breakdown immune tolerance. Histopathologically, characterized by epidermal acanthosis parakeratosis, individual keratinization, liquefaction...
Background: Perampanel, a non-competitive α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionic acid (AMPA) receptor antagonist, arrested disease progression in sporadic ALS (SALS) mouse model, suggesting its potential use humans. Methods: This multicentre, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study was conducted at 12 sites Japan. Patients with probable or definite as defined by revised El Escorial criteria were enrolled. Using computerised interactive system the following...
To clarify the effect of perampanel (PER) on sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (sALS) progression, relationship between changes in Revised Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R) scores and serum PER concentrations was investigated.12 patients with sALS from our hospital who agreed to participate completed for randomized phase 2 study were included. After completing study, we retrospectively obtained concentration data patients. Based their mean concentrations,...
Ostomy is an effective form of surgery for various anorectal dysfunctions. However, it should also be noted that patients suffer greatly from stress caused by their stoma. Many alternative therapies have been developed, but none able to solve this critical issue. The reconstruction anal function a challenging issue reconstructive surgeons. Due improvements in transplantation medicine, composite tissue allotransplantation (CTA) has attracted great deal attention recent years. Therefore, we...
