In 1 year 6 patients with prosthetic heart valves (PHVs) treated anticoagulants suffered intracranial hemorrhage. 4, hemorrhage occurred into the site of a recent non-hemorrhagic infarction. others, both whom had endocarditis, hemorrhages probably as result rupture mycotic aneurysm. Five were warfarin, heparin. all level anticoagulant activity was greater than 1.5 times control. in atrial fibrillation; hypertensive. The diagnosis made and its location extent accurately determined by computed...

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the tissues surrounding teeth, with evidence systemic effects. Some studies showed benefit periodontal therapy on blood pressure (BP), but impact periodontitis BP control unknown. We retrospectively analyzed cross-sectional, nationally representative data from treated hypertensive adults aged ≥30 years and without periodontitis. was examined as both continuous (mm Hg) categorical (treatment goal achievement status according to...

In Brief Purpose: To analyze the effect of anti–vascular endothelial growth factor agents (anti-VEGF) in submacular choroidal thickness (CT) diabetic retinopathy (DR) patients. Methods: Cross-sectional study, which included 25 DR patients (50 eyes) divided 2 groups, according to stage and previous treatments: nonproliferative diffuse macular edema both eyes, submitted laser eyes anti-VEGF injection only 1 eye (nonproliferative + group, n = 11); proliferative treated with panretinal...

Increasing evidence links periodontal microbiota to several systemic conditions, including high blood pressure (BP). Antibodies oral pathogens can be considered an indirect assessment of bacterial burden. We aimed at assessing the relationship between exposure microbiota, expressed in terms relative antibodies, and BP, using data from third National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III).We analyzed cross-sectional, nationally representative 7,928 adults aged ≥40 years who...

Periodontitis is a relapsing-remitting disease. Compared with bleeding on probing (BoP), expression of disease activity, periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA), incorporates chronic parameters. We tested the association PISA and BoP blood pressure (BP) in NHANES III.A total 8,614 subjects (≥30 years) complete BP examinations were enrolled. was derived from depth BoP. The high/uncontrolled examined by multiple-adjusted models. Inflammatory markers as possible mediators. A machine learning...

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) including hypertension, are characterized by underlying systemic inflammation. Periodontitis, which can impact the inflammatory burden has recently been linked to high blood pressure (BP). However, relationship of gingival bleeding, as an easily accessible marker periodontal disorder, with remains unclear.Survey-based propensity score matching (PSM) incorporating major confounders shared between hypertension and was applied cross-sectional NHANES III data from...

Central nervous system (CNS) involvement is rare in scleroderma unless there are concomitant abnormalities renal or lung function malignant hypertension. A 43-year-old woman with typical developed subacute encephalopathy despite absence of the above abnormalities. Cerebral angiography demonstrated a focal arteritis. The patient improved while being given corticosteroids. We believe this case indicates that cerebral arteritis can occur scleroderma.

Objective: Observational evidence supports an inverse association between hypovitaminosis D and blood pressure (BP), but intervention data have failed to demonstrate beneficial effects of vitamin supplementation on BP. Following the downwards redefinition hypertension treatment targets need better identify individuals at greater risk for uncontrolled BP, our aim was test serum levels with definition BP according European guidelines in treated hypertensive adults. Methods: We retrospectively...

Background: Oral involvement is often associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Recent evidence suggests a high incidence of periodontal in patients Crohn (CD). To the best authors’ knowledge, no animal model IBD that displays was reported previously. The aim this study to investigate occurrence and progression SAMP1/YitFc (SAMP) mice spontaneously develop CD‐like ileitis. In addition, temporal correlation between onset ileitis SAMP studied. Methods: At different time points,...

With the emerging success of COVID-19 vaccination programs, incidence acute will decrease. However, given high number people who contracted SARS-CoV-2 infection and recovered, we be faced with a significant patients persistent symptoms even months after their infection. In this setting, long COVID its cardiovascular manifestations, including pericarditis, need to become top priority for healthcare systems as new chronic disease process.
