Electronic decision-support tools are becoming an essential component of government strategies to tackle non-native species invasions. This study describes the development and application a multilingual electronic tool for screening terrestrial animals under current future climate conditions: Terrestrial Animal Species Invasiveness Screening Kit (TAS-ISK). As adaptation widely employed Aquatic (AS-ISK), TAS-ISK question template inherits from original Weed Risk Assessment (WRA) related...
Reproductive traits are among the most important biological characteristics that facilitate or impede establishment of non-native fish into new environments. In several tributaries Lower River Danube (Bulgaria), round goby (Neogobius melanostomus Pallas, 1814) is a recent invader. Specimens from edge invasion front were collected monthly (March 2017 to May 2018) each river. The pioneer individuals displayed relatively small body sizes. First maturation females occurs at 49 mm total length....
Investigations on the ichthyofauna in Vit River basin were carried out 2007 and 2008 at 15 sampling points covering itself 5 tributaries its upper stretch. Fish sampled applying electricity according to Standard EN14011. The results obtained analyzed together with data of earlier studies. Totally, 45 fish species recorded until now. Twenty five them are considered conservation significance referred national international sources. Some enlisted several Thus, 13 Bulgarian Biodiversity Act...
ABSTRACTComparisons of survival, growth and sexual maturation mixed-sex diploid triploid brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) were performed during a 2-year trial. Survival was similar between ploidy groups, except for significantly lowers survival triploids the 24-hour period immediately after heat-shock treatment eggs, in one instance dramatic temperature increase dissolved oxygen decrease, which occurred rearing at 7 months age. No differences morphometric traits or characteristics...
Background. The pumpkinseed, Lepomis gibbosus (L.), is one of 23 introduced fish species in Bulgarian freshwaters. With this study we attempt to contribute clarifying the factors that effect pumpkinseed abundance and demographic structure water bodies differing macro- microhabitat parameters. Materials methods. Fish were collected during breeding period (May–June 2010) by minnow traps arranged 31 sites littoral zone 13 fresh (former- active sand-pit lakes, reservoirs, adaptive ponds...
Background. Peipsi whitefish, Coregonus maraenoides Polyakov, 1874, is an endemic species of Lake (Chudskoe) in Estonia and Russia. In the mid-1970s, it was introduced into biggest Bulgarian artificial body water—the Iskar Reservoir (Danube River basin). A recent survey confirmed existence a self-sustaining population whitefish dam lake. Establishing suitable method for determining age would allow fishery managers biologists to extract valuable information on various parameters....
We experimentally tested the potential use of artificial substrate – plastic bottles for egg deposition non-native pumpkinseed sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus L. in a former sand-pit lake western Bulgaria. The is situated close to an urban area, and characterised by high abundance. study was carried out period 105 days during active breeding season (from May August). Five sites along littoral area lake, with different habitat characteristics were selected. Each site divided into two sections...
Cottus haemusi (Marinov and Dikov, 1986. Acta Zool. Bulg. 3, 18–23) is an endemic fish species that restricted to the upper tributaries of river Vit, Northwest Bulgaria. After its discovery in 1986, no further investigation C. population has been conducted. The aims present study were determine current status based on distribution, abundance size structure analyse main environmental parameters habitat. Five upland examined low-water periods 2009 2010. Two-pass electrofishing surveys...
The investigated fish pass is a part of а low-head hydrostatic pressure machine (HPM) located on an existing weir in the upper Iskar River.Monitoring hydraulic features was performed under different conditions.Diversity and abundance local fauna with aim to verify target species.A major limiting factor for using during flood periods high water velocity (both inside at downstream entrance), while low discharge it insufficient depth some pools significant differences between levels adjacent...
