The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Emergency Medicine's Simulation Interest Group developed a survey targeting pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) fellowship program directors to assess the use high-fidelity simulation (HFS) in PEM fellow training.Content experts and 38-item Internet-based questionnaire that was distributed via e-mail though www.surveymonkey.com.Seventy-seven percent (51/66) United States Canada responded survey. Sixty-three programs incorporate HFS training. For...

The rapid growth of computed tomography (CT) has resulted in increased concerns ionizing radiation exposure and its subsequent risk cancer development. We evaluated the impact a new protocol using sequence magnetic resonance imaging (rsMRI) instead CT children presenting with possible ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) malfunction to promote patient safety. This is retrospective case series pediatric patients who received neuroimaging study for emergency evaluation VPS at New York University's...

We explored whether a mechanically-assisted squat exercise improved muscle mass, function, and pulmonary function in elderly women with or without sarcopenia. In total, 76 community-dwelling subjects (>60 years of age) were screened. ultimately included 30 who completed more than 80% the six-week course exercises (three days per week, min day). measured body composition, lung knee extensor strength, hand grip 3-min walk distance (3MWD) before after program. Subjects sarcopenia had poor...

EAAC1 is important in modulating brain ischemic tolerance. Mice lacking exhibit increased susceptibility to neuronal oxidative stress mice after transient cerebral ischemia. was first described as a glutamate transporter but later recognized also function cysteine neurons. EAAC1-mediated transport of into neurons contributes antioxidant by providing substrates for glutathione synthesis. Here we evaluated the effects gene deletion on hippocampal blood vessel disorganization EAAC1-/- female...

Objective To investigate if there is difference in hepatic segmental volume distribution according to causes of liver cirrhosis (LC) using computed tomography volumetric analysis. Methods On tomographic scans, volumes were measured 90 patients with LC 4 different (alcohol, hepatitis B virus (HBV), C (HCV), and cryptogenic cirrhosis). The indices compared. Results proportion the lateral segment HBV was significantly higher than HCV (P = 0.038). Hepatic alcoholic showed differences: larger...

The effects of zinc supplementation on hippocampal neurogenesis in diabetes mellitus have not been studied. Herein, we investigated the plus cyclo-(His-Pro) (ZC) occurring subgranular zone dentate gyrus after streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes. ZC (27 mg/kg) was administered by gavage once daily for one or six weeks from third day STZ injection, and histological evaluation performed at 10 (early phase) 45 (late days injection. We found that proliferation progenitor cells STZ-induced...

Background/Objectives: This study compares clinical and radiological outcomes of open microscopic posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) biportal endoscopic spine surgery (BESS) PCF in multi-level cases. While BESS is effective single-level surgeries, its role procedures remains unclear. Methods: retrospective cohort included 60 patients treated for radiculopathy from 2016 to 2023, divided into two groups, (Group M, n = 30) B, 30). Clinical were assessed using visual analogue scale (VAS)...

Franklin-Silverman needles, commonly used for liver biopsies, were biopsy of synovia 75 joints. The results indicate a higher percentage success in obtaining pathologic specimens than with previously reported instruments. Complications rare, only milk transient hemarthrosis being found 5 cases. For an accurate diagnosis, multiple should be obtained since single are too small to interpret histopathologically. Being simpler and safer, the needle is recommended as routine procedure early...

Brachymetatarsia is usually treated by lengthening the metatarsals, but excessive can be associated with complications. Our technique combines 1-stage step-cut of first metatarsal shortening and/or neighboring metatarsals phalanges.Twenty-four feet (15 patients) were for first-ray brachymetatarsia. Widely available commercial image-editing software was used to make a preoperative plan each patient, emphasis on creation cosmetically satisfying toe-length arc minimum and affected proximal...
