Aims In recent years, the use of a collared cementless femoral prosthesis has risen in popularity. The design intention components is to transfer some load resected calcar and prevent implant subsidence within cancellous bone metaphysis. Conversely, for cemented depends on cement-component cement-bone interface interaction. aim our study was compare three most commonly used tapered polished patients aged ≥ 75 years who have undergone primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) osteoarthritis (OA)....
Abstract Background Arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI) is known to lead self-reported symptom improvement. In the context of surgical interventions with contextual effects and no true sham comparator trials, it important ascertain outcomes that are less susceptible placebo effects. The primary aim this trial was determine if study participants FAI who have hip arthroscopy demonstrate greater improvements in delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance...
Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI), a hip disorder affecting active young adults, is believed to be leading cause of osteoarthritis (OA). Current management approaches for FAI include arthroscopic surgery and physiotherapy-led non-surgical care; however, there paucity clinical trial evidence comparing these approaches. In particular, it unknown whether modify the future risk developing OA. The primary objective this randomised controlled determine if participants with who undergo...
Sixty-six adult patients with minimally displaced distal radial fractures were randomly assigned to treatment either a plaster cast or lightweight removable wrist splint. Outcome assessment was by clinical and radiological evaluation an independent physiotherapy assessment. There significant differences between the treatments for satisfaction, problems functional score at 6 weeks, splint scoring better in all cases.
Despite the well-documented decline in use of metal-on-metal (MoM) implants over last decade, there are still controversies regarding whether all MoM created equally. Complications such as elevated serum metal ion levels, aseptic lymphocyte-dominated vasculitis-associated lesion (ALVAL) and pseudotumours have been well documented, but recent studies suggest increased risk infection with bearing surfaces. Most these however small patient numbers. The purpose this study was to examine...
To examine whether a hip brace can improve health quality-of-life (QoL) and is well-tolerated in people with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) or symptomatic labral tears after 6 weeks of wear.Parallel, two-arm, exploratory randomized trial.Hospital private clinics orthopaedic surgeons.Individuals >18 years FAIS tears.Usual conservative care versus usual plus brace.Patient-reported outcomes were assessed the International Hip Outcome Tool (iHOT-33), Copenhagen Groin Scores...
Cementless hemiarthroplasty in hip fracture surgery has been associated with poorer outcomes and more pain than cemented hemiarthroplasty. The aim was to investigate clinical radiographic for a cementless tapered titanium fully hydroyxapatite-coated (Corail® System) stem this consecutive cohort of patients. We retrospectively evaluated the results 68 elderly patients displaced intracapsular fractures, treated implant. Mean follow-up 4.3 years (2-6 years). One-year mortality 24%. 95% had...
The purpose of this study was to investigate the value augmented Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Becker extensor tendon repair, a strong 4-strand technique that allows mobilization repaired tendons after only 3 weeks postoperative static splinting. In prospective study, we used suturing with 4-0 Ethilon. Eighteen patients had lacerations technique. Results were compared uninjured hand and statistically evaluated. Postoperatively immobilized in volar splint then fully mobilized...
There is a growing body of work on the ex vivo tensile testing tendon repairs, an appreciable amount which are performed cadaveric porcine flexor tendons. However, there little information in literature exactly how to perform dissections necessary obtain tendons from trotters. We present simple method rapidly harvest foot, allowing large amounts material be harvested time for purpose repairs.
The aim of this study was to compare patient-reported outcomes 6 months after hip or knee arthroplasty in subjects who were discharged home compared those attended inpatient rehabilitation.Seven hundred and forty-eight consecutive total replacement patients identified from a prospective database. Preoperative 6-month post-operative outcome measures recorded. Forty-four directly cohort matched by age, gender, procedure surgeon 44 the received care. Patient using SPSS version 24 software.Both...
To determine the prevalence of opioid use in Australian hip (THA) or knee (TKA) cohort, and its association with outcomes.About 837 primary THA TKA subjects prospectively completed Oxford Scores, Knee Hip Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score(KOOS/HOOS) previous week before arthroplasty. Subjects repeated baseline survey at 6 months, additional questions regarding satisfaction.Opioid was reported by 19% preoperatively 7% months. Opioid 46% weeks 10% months after TKR, 16% 4% THR. Preoperative...
Background: Although randomized controlled trials comparing hip arthroscopy with physical therapy for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome have emerged, no studies investigated potential moderators or mediators change in hip-related quality life. Purpose: To explore moderators, mediators, and prognostic indicators effect on 33-item international Hip Outcome Tool (iHOT-33) score FAI syndrome. Study Design: Cohort study; Level evidence, 2. Methods: Overall, 99...
This is a case report of family in which Legg- Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) occurred four members. All the patients were male and between ages three eight years. unusually high incidence one raises questions about genetic versus environmental factors etiology LCPD.
