Previous meta-analyses of summary data from randomised controlled trials have shown that statin therapy increases the risk diabetes, but less is known about size or timing this effect, who at greatest risk. We aimed to address these gaps in knowledge through analysis individual participant large, long-term, randomised, double-blind therapy.

Importance
The clinical phenotype and certain predisposing genetic mutations that confer increased melanoma risk are established; however, no consensus exists regarding optimal screening for such individuals. Early identification remains the most important intervention in reducing mortality.
Objective
To evaluate impact of full-body examinations every 6 months supported by dermoscopy total-body photography (TBP) on all patients sequential digital imaging (SDDI), when...

Fenofibrate is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-α agonist that showed beneficial effects on total cardiovascular risk in patients with type 2 diabetes the Intervention and Event Lowering Diabetes (FIELD) study. This study aimed to investigate long-term effect of fenofibrate therapy three novel biomarkers risk, namely adipocyte-fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP), fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), retinol-binding 4 (RBP4), which are all downstream targets PPAR-α or...

Although the prognosis of most patients presenting with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is poor, a small proportion survives long term. We investigated factors associated survival in large patient series. All registered NSW Dust Diseases Board (2002–2009) were included an analysis prognostic using Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression analysis. On basis these analyses, we developed risk score (Prognostic Index (PI)). identified 910 patients: 90% male; histology (epithelioid 60%; biphasic 13%;...

Abstract Aims To investigate whether long-term glycemic variability (GV) is associated with vascular complication development in type 2 diabetes. Methods In a post hoc FIELD trial analysis, GV was calculated as the standard deviation and coefficient of variation (CV) glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) fasting plasma glucose. Baseline variables were compared across quartiles on-study by chi square ANOVA. Prospective associations between baseline to 2-year subsequent mortality outcomes analyzed...

Abstract Background Arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI) is known to lead self-reported symptom improvement. In the context of surgical interventions with contextual effects and no true sham comparator trials, it important ascertain outcomes that are less susceptible placebo effects. The primary aim this trial was determine if study participants FAI who have hip arthroscopy demonstrate greater improvements in delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance...

Abstract Background Falls cause considerable morbidity and mortality in older people. It is unclear how vitamin D supplementation affects falls risk, particularly when taken at high doses. We sought to determine whether monthly high‐dose reduces risk incidence of falls. Methods used data from the randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled D‐Health Trial conducted Australia. Between February 2014 May 2015, 21 315 participants aged 60–84 years were randomized (1:1) doses either 60 000 IU...

Periprocedural myocardial infarction (MI) occurs in a significant proportion of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and portends poor outcomes. Currently, no clinically applicable method predicts periprocedural MI the cardiac catheterization laboratory before it occurs. We hypothesized that impaired baseline microcirculatory reserve, which reduces ability to tolerate ischemic insults, is risk for index resistance (IMR) measured during PCI can predict occurrence...

We evaluated associations of HDL-C, apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), HDL-C/apoA-I with insulin secretion, resistance, HbA1c, long-term glycemic deterioration, reflected by initiation pharmacologic glucose control. The 5-year Fenofibrate Intervention Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study followed 9,795 type 2 diabetic subjects. calculated baseline fasting apoA-I, HbA1c and, those not taking exogenous (n =...
