HIV-infected older adults (HOA) are at risk of functional decline. Interventions promoting physical activity that can attenuate decline and easily translated into the HOA community high priority. We conducted a randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate whether counseling intervention based on self-determination theory (SDT) improves function, autonomous motivation, depression quality life (QOL) in HOA.
<title>Abstract</title> Background Young sexual minority men (YSMM) living in slums face high risks of contracting HIV due to poverty and limited healthcare access. Certain areas Accra's have much higher rates than the national average, around 7% compared 2%. YSMM these struggle access services, lower perceptions risk, less education, poverty, leading low testing. These also encounter increased stigma because where they live, like slum area known as "Old Fadama" or "Sodom...
This study examined sharing noninjection drug implements as a risk factor for hepatitis C (HCV) infection among women users (n = 123) with no history of injection. Participants were street-recruited from East Harlem, New York City, between October 1997 and June 1999. administered survey measuring factors HCV. Prevalence HCV HIV infections was 19.5% 14.6%, respectively. Multiple logistic regression determined significant associations drug-use infection. "Ever shared both oral intranasal...
Intranasal transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) via contaminated drug-sniffing implements is a potential but unconfirmed source viral infection. We demonstrate the virological plausibility intranasal by confirming that blood and HCV RNA are present in nasal secretions HCV-infected drug users recruited from community health clinic New York City.
This qualitative study examines the interpersonal and structural barriers to drug treatment program entry, retention, outcomes experienced by injection drug-using couples, policies regarding couples seeking in New York, York. Our findings reveal a mismatch between substantial need for concurrent coordinated partnered injection-drug users programmatic that are antithetical such approaches. discrepancy can be attributed lack of viable options couple-focused approaches fit within current...
Aims and objectives To characterise a sample of 202 adult community‐living long‐term indwelling urinary catheter users, to describe self‐care practices problems, explore relationships among demographics, problems. Background Long‐term users have not been well studied, persons using the device indefinitely for persistent retention are likely different patterns Design The study was cross‐sectional descriptive exploratory analysis. Methods Home interviews were conducted with who provided...
Abstract Background Suboptimal adherence to HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART) and concomitant lack of viral control can have severe consequences for health onward transmission among persons living with HIV. Little is known about the barriers facilitators optimal ART heterosexual HIV-positive men. Methods Structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed test a theory-derived model using data from cross-sectional sample 317 self-identified men residing in New York City. We assessed conceptual...
<title>Abstract</title> Background While GBMSM constitute less than 2% of Ghana's population, their HIV prevalence surpasses the national average by more eightfold, emphasizing critical need for targeted interventions to improve detection, care linkage, and reduce community transmission. This study seeks increase testing, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) uptake (HPART) among YGBMSM through adaptation an evidence-based intervention (LAFIYA)....
Abstract Background : Gebhardt (1905. Arch. Entwickl. Org., 20 :187–322) originated the hypothesis that direction of collagen fibers in bone is a structural response to type mechanical load which subjected. He proposed aligned parallel loading axis are best suited withstand tensile strain, whereas oriented perpendicular able resist compressive strain. Research comparing patterns with fiber alignment have tended support Gebhardt's hypothesis. The aim present study further test this by...
Objectives: This report documents the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among self-reported noninjecting drug users recruited from two New York City neighborhoods. Methods: Participants were in separate studies East Harlem and Lower Side Manhattan administered structured questionnaires tested for HCV. Results: HCV rates those reporting no history injecting drugs ranged 5% to 29%, according age, gender, study location. Conclusions: Our results suggest that more research is...
Background: Effective on January 1, 2001, New York State enacted the Expanded Syringe Access Demonstration Program (ESAP), which allows syringes to be sold in pharmacies without a prescription or dispensed through doctors, hospitals, and clinics persons 18 years of age older permits possession those for purposes injecting drugs. Objective: To assess changes receptive syringe sharing since inception ESAP. Methods: Sociodemographic characteristics use data regarding last injection episode were...
Case-control laboratory study. To compare tendon characteristics (shape, composition) and mechanical properties (strain, stiffness) on the involved side of participants with insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) to uninvolved controls, examine if severity pathology is associated symptoms during function.Despite chronicity IAT, quality theoretical evidence available guide development exercise interventions low. While midportion has been described, there are few studies specific IAT.Twenty...
To describe and explore relationships among catheter problems in long-term indwelling urinary users, including excess healthcare use for treating problems.Long-term users experience repeated with catheter-related tract infection blockage of the device, yet little has been reported patterns relevant variables.Secondary data analysis was conducted from a sample randomised clinical trial, using entire 202 persons over 12 months' participation.Descriptive statistics were used to characterise...
Studies have found disparities in psychological distress between lesbian and gay cancer survivors their heterosexual counterparts. Exercise partner support are shown to reduce distress. However, exercise interventions haven't been delivered with by caregivers included. In this pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), ten twelve were as dyads to: Arm 1, a survivor-only, 6-week, home-based, aerobic resistance training program (EXCAP©®); or 2, dyadic version of the same involving both survivor...
The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and distribution catheter-related problems in long-term indwelling urinary catheter users. We also sought assess appropriateness use examine relationships among complications care practices. This repeated-measures involved self-reported data collection by recall at intake prospective 2, 4, 6 months users. Two sampling arms were used: a home (HC) agency with 10 individuals Internet 33 people having spinal cord injury.Home visit follow-up...
Abstract Aims To explore the factors that position nurse practitioners (NPs) to lead implementation of HIV pre‐exposure prophylaxis. Background The epidemic represents a global health crisis. Reducing new infections is public priority, especially for Black and Latino men who have sex with (MSM). When taken as directed, co‐formulated emtricitabine tenofovir over 95% efficacy in preventing HIV; however, substantial gaps remain between those would benefit from prophylaxis (PrEP) current PrEP...
