This study is the follow up of URBAN-MAES pilot implemented in framework EnRoute project. The aims at mapping and assessing process particulate matter (PM10) tropospheric ozone (O3) removal by various forest shrub ecosystems. Different policy levels environmental contexts were considered, namely Metropolitan city Rome and, a wider level, Latium region. approach involves characterization main land cover ecosystems using Sentinel-2 images, enabling detailed assessment Ecosystem Service (ES),...
Air pollution is a serious concern for human health and even more worrying in areas that are known to be "pollution hotspots", such as the Po Plain northern Italy. The Urban Green Infrastructure (UGI), which includes urban peri-urban forests, enhances wellbeing delivering wide range of ecosystem services, including air quality improvement. In this research, we analyzed, biophysical monetary terms, role UGI removing PM10 O3 from atmosphere Municipality Ferrara using established removal...
Abstract Background Leaf area index (LAI) is a key indicator for the assessment of canopy’s processes such as net primary production and evapotranspiration. For this reason, LAI often used input parameter in ecosystem services’ modeling, which emerging critical tool steering upcoming urban reforestation strategies. However, field measures are extremely time-consuming require remarkable economic human resources. In context, spectral indices computed using high-resolution multispectral...
According to projects and practices that the Italian botanists ecologists are carrying out for bringing "more nature in city", new insights a factual integration between ecological perspectives more consolidated aesthetic agronomic approaches sustainable planning management of urban green areas provided.
Ecosystem services delivered by natural ecosystems are increasingly important for climate change adaptation and mitigation play a huge role in biodiversity conservation. For this reason, the EU has ambitious goal of protecting at least 30% land 2030. Member states called to improve expand network protected areas within next few years; do so, scientific studies aimed identifying with high ecological value, as well defining best management practices, highly needed. In study, we used InVEST...
Cities are nowadays facing compelling environmental and climatic challenges that threaten human health well-being; for this reason, enhancing their sustainability resilience has rapidly ascended to the top of global regional political Agenda. The Urban Green Infrastructure represents a key factor in quality cities, its planning should be steered by scientifically-sound operationalisation Ecosystem Services concept. In work, we assess mismatch air regulation four Italian Municipalities...
During the last century landscape of Po delta (Italy), one most important European deltaic areas, was strongly altered by extended land reclamation and use intensification. Consequently, loss lowland forested area that once along region's coast took place. The present study aims to evaluate ecosystem services provided Bosco Mesola woodland, a remnant-forested 1,058 ha located on an agriculture-dominated landscape, nowadays protected as National Nature Reserve. Five were selected evaluated...
Neisseria gonorrhoeae was isolated from 53 young females (6–14 years old) in a Somali orphanage. A male guardian found to be the effective transmitter having sexually abused children. All bacterial isolates were of same serogroup WI and serovar Aedih. This presents an unusual example tight geographic cluster infected people which is often characteristic gonorrhoea epidemics.
