In this study a new pH-responsive nanogel probe containing complementary nonradiative resonance energy transfer (NRET) fluorophore pair is investigated and its ability to act as versatile of network-related changes in three hydrogels demonstrated. Fluorescent sensing using NRET powerful method for studying relationships between Angstrom length-scale structure macroscopic properties soft matter. Unfortunately, inclusion fluorophores into such materials requires material-specific chemistry....
Colloidosomes are micrometer-sized hollow particles that have shells consisting of coagulated or fused colloid particles. While many large colloidosomes with sizes well above 1.0 μm been prepared, there fewer examples submicrometer colloidosomes. Here, we establish a simple emulsion templating-based method for the preparation robust pH-responsive microgel The constructed from based on ethyl acrylate and methacrylic acid peripheral vinyl groups. microgels acted as both Pickering stabilizer...
pH-Responsive microgels can disperse carbon nanotubes and act as macro-crosslinkers to give hydrogel composites with ductilities that increase increasing modulus.
Self-assembling poly(lauryl methacrylate)-b-poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PLMAx-PBzMAy) diblock copolymers were synthesised for the first time using solution atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP). The PLMA degree of (x) was fixed at 14 and PBzMA (y) varied from 34 to 74. Post-polymerisation this new series chloroform into n-dodecane (a poor solvent PBzMA) resulted in self-assembly polymeric nano-objects. morphologies latter (spheres, worms vesicles) controlled by y. observed generally...
A new family of pH-responsive microgel-colloidosomes was prepared using microgel particles as the building blocks and macro-crosslinker. Our simple versatile method used covalent inter-linking vinyl-functionalised adsorbed to oil droplets form shells doubly crosslinked microgels (DX MGs) demonstrated two different types.
In this study hydrogel composites are investigated that contain sacrificial pH-responsive collapsed hollow particles (CHPs) entrapped within a poly(acrylamide) (PAAm) network. The CHPs were prepared using scalable (mainly) water-based method and had bowl-like morphology was comparable to of red blood cells. constructed from poly(methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid), which is copolymer. PAAm/CHP composite probed with optical microscopy, CLSM SEM. These data showed the dispersed throughout...
Microgels (MGs) are crosslinked polymer particles that swell when the pH approaches pKa of constituent polymer. Our earlier work showed concentrated MG dispersions can be covalently interlinked to form macroscopic hydrogels, which termed doubly microgels (DX MGs). Here, we study for first time effects intra-MG crosslinking on swelling MGs and mechanical properties DX MGs. The were synthesised by emulsion copolymerisation ethyl acrylate (EA) or methacrylic acid (MAA) divinylbenzene (DVB)....
Using low-cost sub-micrometer microgel particles in perovskite solar cells reduces expensive conjugated polymer use, increases stability and provides good efficiencies.
In this study we mixed low concentrations of graphene oxide (GO) with microgel (MG) particles and formed composite doubly cross-linked microgels (DX MG/GO) gels. The MG comprised poly(ethyl acrylate-co-methacrylic acid-co-1,4-butanediol diacrylate) pendant glycidyl methacrylate units. MG/GO dispersions physical gels singly MGs (termed SX MG/GO), which were subsequently heated to produce DX by free-radical reaction. influence the GO concentration on mechanical properties was investigated...
Whilst hydrogels and hollow particles both continue to attract much attention in the literature there are few examples of hydrogel composites containing particles. Here, we study composite polyacrylamide (PAAm) micrometer-sized pH-responsive shell-crosslinked (abbreviated as HPXL) based on poly(methylmethacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) functionalised with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). The HPXL were prepared using our scaleable emulsion template method inclusion GMA was found promote spherical...
It is hard to design a traditional edge-lit light guide plate (LGP) as an ultrathin structure, because the LGP thickness will be limited by luminescence regional width of LED source. In this paper, tilted coupling structure (TLCS) for liquid crystal display (LCD) backlight proposed that allows inclined layout edge array significantly reduce thickness. The process and optical conditions TLCS are first discussed, effect structural parameters on efficiency also analyzed. After that, fundamental...
Nanocrystal aggregation triggered by added bilinker prior to P3HT/ZnO film formation results in increased thickness and light absorption.
Composite polystyrene microgel/P3HT films have been prepared that contain islands of 2D-microgel crystals, are electrically conducting and show tuneable light absorption.
Temperature sensitive hydrogels are probably the most commonly studied class of environmentally polymer systems in drug delivery research. In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix with nanosized pores was obtained by treatment silica and glutaraldehyde. Then, internal dry PVA were filled poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) to form a thermoresponsive hybrid PVA/PNIPAAm hydrogel for controlled release. The morphology functional groups characterised SEM Fourier transform infrared...
Incorporating gold nanoparticles within a pH-responsive hydrogel enables the surface plasmon resonance signal and metal-induced fluorescence quenching to be used study local network structure probe gel swelling remotely.
Oligomerization of alkenes is a promising way for production high-quality and eco-friendly liquid fuels, where zeolite catalysts are critical. In the catalysts, mass transfer accessibility in reaction normally influenced by intrinsic micropores zeolites, particular, bulky or branched molecules employed. Here, we report isoamylene (2-methyl-2-butene) dimerization over mesoporous HY zeolites obtained facile NaOH treatments. These exhibited high activity good stability compared with untreated...
