Two types of graphene nanoribbons: (a) potassium-split nanoribbons (GNRs), and (b) oxidative unzipped chemically converted (CCGNRs) were investigated for their magnetic properties using the combination static magnetization electron spin resonance measurements. The two ribbons possess remarkably different properties. While low temperature ferromagnet-like feature is observed in both ribbons, such room persists only ribbons. GNRs show negative exchange bias, but CCGNRs exhibit a 'positive...

Electron spin resonance study of unzipped graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) reveals a specific carbon-related signal, denoted GC, at g=2.0032, attributed to GNRs periphery centers. The signal is observed be readily quenched upon O2 adsorption, which appears fully reversible room temperature vacuum treatment. Its depassivation behavior, from 130 K onward, well described by first-order kinetics, characterized the dissociation energy 0.58±0.04 eV spread 0.11±0.02 eV. GC not sensitive other gases,...

Electron spin resonance (ESR) investigation of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) prepared through longitudinal unzipping multi-walled carbon nanotubes indicates the presence C-related dangling bond centers, exhibiting paramagnetic features. ESR signal broadening from pristine or oxidized GNRs is explained in terms unresolved hyperfine structure, and case reduced GNRs, can be due to enhancement conductivity upon reduction. The dynamics observed line width-temperature data reflect a variable range...
