Osteoporosis is characterized by an imbalance between bone formation and resorption, leading to decreased mass increased fracture risk, mainly associated with aging. Current treatments include anti-resorptive anabolic drugs. However, these often have side effects, many patients seek natural biological alternatives. We demonstrated previously that hops extract, rich in compounds estrogenic activity classified as phytoestrogens, exerts osteogenic effects promoting the osteoblastic...

We previously showed that a 3-week oral metformin (MET) treatment enhances the osteogenic potential of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) and improves several histomorphometric parameters in Wistar rats with metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, skeletal effects extended periods MET need to be completely elucidated. Hence, this study, impact prolonged (3-month) was investigated on architecture, biomechanics variables, BMSCs or without MetS.

Motivation for the study. Most research supports a negative association between metabolic syndrome and bone health, although there is an overall lack of consensus. Therefore, need in this area to develop better understanding. Main findings. Metabolic induced by fructose-rich diet increases adipogenic predisposition marrow progenitor cells femoral medullary adiposity rats. Furthermore, can be partially prevented co-treatment with metformin. Implications. Experimental has effects on tissue...
