A colorimetric assay was developed for detection of indole-3-carbaldehyde (I3A), a bioactive compound particularly abundant in vegetables the Brassicaceae family, inducing plant defense responses and ensuring human intestinal barrier integrity. The is based on selective condensation reaction between hydrazine group carbidopa, used as derivatizing agent, aldehyde I3A, generating colored aldazine with characteristic absorbance around 415 nm.
