Background The quality of life (QL) cancer patients has attracted an increasing interest in recent years. Patients with head and neck often have troublesome symptoms due to the disease treatment side effects, which will impact on patient's QL. aim this study was evaluate possibility studying QL relation well-known clinical parameters. Methods Patient's evaluated according European Organization for Research Treatment Cancer Quality Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) combined a...

Abstract This study was designed to prospectively monitor the quality of life laryngeal cancer patients, compare patients with small tumors that large tumors, and test any difference in treated conventional versus hyperfractioned accelerated radiation therapy. Patients having had a laryngectomy within year were also analyzed separately. The European Organization for Research Treatment Cancer (EORTC) Quality Life Core Questionnaire (QLQ‐C30), EORTC Head Neck Module (H&N‐37), Hospital...

AbstractThe endogenous production of carbon monoxide (V˘O) was found to increase by 68 (range 16–150) per cent over baseline level after caloric restriction (380 kcal/36 h) in 8 healthy adults. Total serum bilirubin increased 50 (0–150) cent. No changes were seen total body heme, haptoglobin, or iron. Even though two cases with chronic unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia showed a more marked restriction, their V˙O within the range adults.Key Words: Bilirubincarbon monoxidefastingheme metabolism

Re-irradiation in head and neck cancer is challenging, cumulative dose constraints dose/volume data are scarce. In this study, we present for patients re-irradiated explore the correlations of to organs at risk severe side effects. We analyzed 54 between 2011 2017. Organs were delineated collected from treatment plans all included patients. Receiver–operator characteristics (ROC) analysis assessed association parameters toxicity. The ROC-curve a logistic model carotid blowout vs. maximum...

In order to assess the value of radiotherapy in treatment pleural mesotheliomas, we studied tumour response and survival after hemithorax irradiation alone (RT), or combined with doxorubicin cyclophosphamide chemotherapy (RTCT). Forty seven patients mesotheliomas received diseased at 8 MV (megavolt) photons a total dose 40 Gy, administered 20 daily fractions 2 Gy for 5 days week. One month RT, aged < = 70 yrs good performance status were offered supplementary (CT) 30 mg.m-2 body surface...

Methods. Twelve patients with advanced epithelial nonadenocarcinoma of the paranasal sinuses and nasal fossa were treated three cycles cisplatin (100 mg/ m2, day 1) 5-fluorouracil (1000 mg/m2/24 hours on days 1-5 by continuous infusion), followed preoperative external radiation therapy 48 Gy limited surgery, clearing fossa. Results. After chemotherapy, 11 12 free previous symptoms disease. Clinical response rates different, however, an overall rate approximately 70% no complete responses....

During the 19-year period from 1970 to 1988, 289 cases of squamous cell carcinoma oral tongue were diagnosed in Western Sweden. In 230 these, treatment regimens and results analysed an attempt define prognostic factors for local control survival. Tumour stages were: T1 26%, T2 32%, T3 30% T4 13%. Nodal disease was seen 32% patients. Sixty per cent patients had surgery, 74% external with or without combination interstitial irradiation; received chemotherapy. The rate at five years 59% (T1...

Abstract Total heme catabolism has been studied through measurement of the endogenous production carbon monoxide (V̇CO) in 8 patients with hemolysis, 7 hypoproliferative anemia, 10 refractory anemia and hypercellular bone marrow splenomegaly, 6 whom had myeloid metaplasia. Simultaneously, circulating red cell hemoglobin (Vheme‐c) was measured labelling cells 51 Cr, V̇CO/V̇heme‐c ratio calculated for each patient. From a control group it that this should vary around 1.5. Since no isotope...
