An important predicted, but so far uncharacterized, property of the new superconductor MgB2 is electronic anisotropy arising from its layered crystal structure. Here we report on three c-axis oriented thin films, showing that upper critical field ratio Hc2par/Hc2perp 1.8 to 2.0, increasing with higher resistivity. Measurements magnetic field-temperature phase diagram show flux pinning disappears at H* ~ 0.8Hc2perp(T) in untextured samples. Hc2par(0) strongly enhanced by alloying 39 T for...

Samples of YBa2Cu3O7 have been prepared with rather sharp inductive transitions having in the best cases breadths 7 K and midpoint Tc values 88 K. The resistive midpoints are 92–95 transition widths ±1–2 Flux shielding at 4.2 is normally 100% flux expulsion reaches 95%. However, even small fields order 1 mT decouple some 15%–20% volume, allowing to enter samples. Resistive Hc2 measurements suggest that Hc2(0) varies from <1 >300 T, depending on criterion chosen. ac...

The authors have fabricated bulk samples of high-Tc oxide superconductors with narrow inductive Tc transitions ( approximately 3 K) and low resistivities rho (100 K):250-1000 mu Omega cm). They find such to improved transport critical current density (Jct) properties. Although Jct decreases rapidly increasing field for fields <1 T, is then independent over the range 2-15 T at 4.2 K; 77 K dependence also much reduced. about same whether applied parallel or perpendicular field. high-field...

We have observed anomalous voltage excursions as a function of temperature and magnetic field in samples Y-Ba-Cu-O above 100 K. These transient voltages are attributed to flux jumps which characteristic granular superconductors. The dependence the effect strongly supports this interpretation. conclude that there exists grains sample with superconducting transition temperatures at least high 160
